AMD has officially launched the Radeon RX 9060 XT, with a starting price of $349. The card arrives in both 8GB and 16GB VRAM configurations, but the 16GB model is the clear choice for long-term usability.

Unlike some past GPUs where extra VRAM was mostly marketing, the RX 9060 XT has enough compute resources to truly take advantage of 16GB.

Under the hood, it features 32 RDNA 4 compute units, 32 ray-tracing accelerators, and 64 AI accelerators rated at 821 peak AI TOPS. The GPU reaches a 3.3 GHz boost clock.

Connectivity includes PCIe Gen 5 x16, two DisplayPort 2.1a (UHBR 13.5) outputs, and HDMI 2.1b. The power draw ranges between 160 and 180W, depending on the model and overclock settings.

Compared to the RX 7600 XT, this is a massive generational jump, positioning the RX 9060 XT much closer to NVIDIA's RTX 4070 and Intel's Arc B580 in real-world gaming.

Synthetic Benchmarks

In Geekbench OpenCL, the RX 9060 XT lands below the RTX 4070 Founders Edition but comfortably ahead of Intel's Arc B580. Vulkan tests were less flattering, with AMD trailing, though real-world game performance tells a different story.

3DMark Port Royal showed competitive ray-tracing numbers, even against more expensive NVIDIA cards. In Time Spy, the RX 9060 XT sits just behind the RTX 4070 FE while outperforming the RTX 5060 Ti Prime. The findings of Fire Strike were identical, putting it well in the middle of the contemporary GPU range.

Gaming Benchmarks

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

At 1080p high, the RX 9060 XT averaged 175 FPS with strong lows. Even at 1440p high, the card held over 140 FPS, showing excellent non-linear scaling.

Assassin's Creed Shadows

At 1080p high, frame generation provided smoother gameplay, but multi-frame generation caused stuttering on NVIDIA's RTX 5060 Ti. The RX 9060 XT handled single-frame gen and native rendering far better, delivering 63 FPS averages at 1080p high and a solid experience at 1440p.

Cyberpunk 2077

At 1080p high (no ray tracing), the RX 9060 XT performed well, though 1% lows dipped slightly due to a recent Windows update. At 1440p, it outperformed the RTX 4070 and RTX 5060 Ti in terms of stability. With ray tracing enabled, native performance dipped but remained playable with FSR Quality enabled.

Monster Hunter Wilds

One of the best showcases for the RX 9060 XT. At both 1080p and 1440p, performance was excellent, including with ray tracing on.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

AMD cards handled this new release surprisingly well. At 1080p high, averages reached 96 FPS, with lows of 73 FPS, while 1440p hovered around 60 FPS, remaining smooth thanks to FreeSync. NVIDIA's RTX 5060 Ti struggled heavily here, further highlighting AMD's strength.

Doom Eternal & Doom: The Dark Ages

The RX 9060 XT excelled in this area, delivering up to 50% better performance than the RTX 5060 Ti under comparable settings. Ultra-high frame rates made it perfect for high-refresh monitors.

Power, Thermals, and Noise

With a 160–180W TDP, the RX 9060 XT runs efficiently for its class. ASUS's cooling solution keeps temperatures and noise well under control, even under extended gaming sessions.

Final Thoughts

The ASUS Prime Radeon RX 9060 XT is a great GPU for $349. It works well at both 1080p and 1440p resolutions and has enough VRAM to make sure it will work with future games. While ray tracing performance is still behind NVIDIA's top-end solutions, AMD's efficiency, pricing, and software ecosystem make this card a compelling option.

For gamers seeking a balanced, mid-range GPU with longevity, the RX 9060 XT 16GB is one of the best-value graphics cards on the market.
