The Claws of Night is one of the most versatile new claw weapons introduced in the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC expansion, which primarily focuses on range attacks.

This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about building around and mastering the Claws of Night.

Build Requirements

When you use the Claws of Night, you must stick to a pure Dexterity build in Elden Ring.

You should put most of your attribute points into Dexterity for damage because these weapons only work with Dexterity.

The weapon's single-stat scaling makes build planning straightforward, as you won't need to split points between multiple damage attributes.

Combat Mechanics and Moveset

The Claws of Night have a built-in Blood Loss accumulation that makes them very good at putting pressure on enemies in battle in Elden Ring.

This passive effect lets you slowly build up bleed status on your enemies, which means you can do more damage than what the weapon's base stats say it can do.

Heavy Attack Variations

Each heavy attack variation transforms into a throwable projectile, similar to Smithscript weapons in Elden Ring.

Your neutral heavy attack, running heavy attack, and jumping heavy attack all function as long-range options.

This gives you multiple ways to punish opponents from a distance and maintain offensive pressure even when you cannot close the gap for melee combat.

Light Attack Patterns

The light attack moveset follows familiar patterns found in other claw-class weapons in Elden Ring.

You can expect rapid, close-range strikes that work well for building up status effects and maintaining aggressive momentum in melee encounters.

Scattershot Throw

The Ash of War for these weapons is Scattershot Throw, which provides several tactical advantages in Elden Ring.

The skill activates quickly, giving you a responsive ranged option that doesn't leave you vulnerable for extended periods.

It offers a substantial range, allowing you to engage targets at distances where traditional claw weapons would be ineffective.

The skill causes Blood Loss buildup, complementing the weapon's natural bleed properties.

When you position yourself close to your target where the projectile spread is most concentrated, the damage output becomes significantly higher.

This creates interesting positioning decisions where you must balance safety with maximum damage potential in Elden Ring.

Recommended Talismans

You should equip the Shard of Alexander to boost the damage of your weapon skill.

The Smithing Talisman provides additional enhancement for weapon-throwing attacks, which synergizes perfectly with the heavy attack variations and the weapon's overall design philosophy.

The Bull-Goat Talisman offers poise enhancement if you need to maintain your offensive momentum through enemy attacks. Alternatively, you can use the Erdtree's Favor +2 for overall stat improvements.

If poise isn't your priority, consider the Rotten Winged Sword Insignia Talisman, which works well with the weapon's rapid attack patterns and multiple projectile capabilities in Elden Ring.

Tactical Applications

The Claws of Night excel in situations where you need to maintain constant pressure while having escape options.

The throwable heavy attacks allow you to attack retreating opponents or engage targets who are trying to maintain distance in Elden Ring.

Scattershot Throw helps stop enemies from doing things or breaking through their defenses because it activates quickly.

You can exploit the Blood Loss buildup to your advantage by mixing melee and ranged attacks to make the status effect stronger while staying mobile.

You can use the weapon in a variety of ways, so you don't have to swap weapons when the situation changes in Elden Ring.
