Here's a guide on how to make a build with Spear of the Impaler in Elden Ring.

This guide covers the Spear of the Impaler, a new great spear introduced in the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

You'll learn how to build around this weapon's unique mechanics and optimize it for defeating any enemies.

Build Overview

The Spear of the Impaler needs a mix of different stats, with Dexterity and Faith being the most important in Elden Ring.

Your stats favor Faith more than Dexterity because the Ash of War weapon does most of its damage with Faith.

This focus on Faith also makes Messmer's Assault the most potent burst attack you can perform, which is why it's the most significant aspect of your damage output.

Weapon Mechanics

Your light attack moveset is like those of other weapons in the Spear category, so that you can use the same strategies in battle in Elden Ring.

But the heavy attack sets this weapon apart from others by using dynamics that are similar to those of Smithscript weapons.

You can throw things at long distances and charge them all the way. These strikes do area-of-effect damage that explodes when fully charged, and they leave flames on the battlefield that burn over time.

Combat Applications

There are two main ways to wield, each with its tactical use. Two-handed use is excellent for attacking enemies who try to recover, and dual-wielding gives you more options during combat.

The crouch strike is especially useful for making opponents panic roll, which gives you chances to roll, catch, and do follow-up damage easily in Elden Ring.

Talisman Configuration

The Shard of Alexander should be at the top of your Talisman configuration because the Spear of the Impaler is an Ash of War weapon.

This upgrade greatly increases your primary source of damage and fits with the aggressive playstyle that this weapon encourages.

The Two-Handed Sword Talisman is a good choice for single-weapon setups in Elden Ring.

You can also switch to Retaliatory Crossed-Tree when dual-wielding to make your crouch poke more effective and do more damage.

The Erdtree's Favor +2 should be one of your last Talisman slots because it helps with health, stamina, and managing your equipment load.

The Bull-Goat's Talisman completes your setup by giving you more equipment load capacity, which lets you stay mobile even when wearing heavy armor sets in Elden Ring.

Strategic Implementation

Your throwing attacks are your main way to engage; therefore, you should focus on getting the timing and range right.

The explosive area damage creates zone control opportunities, while the residual flame damage pressures opponents to relocate.

Practice switching between two-handed and dual-wield positions depending on the occasion.

Use two-handed stances for defensive situations and dual-wield stances for instances where you need to put pressure on the enemy in Elden Ring.
