In Gotham Knights, you move through Gotham either alone or with another player while controlling Batgirl, Robin, Redhood, or Nightwing.

With Batman gone, it's up to you to deal with the city's criminals and keep looking into how he died. You can switch between the four heroes at any time, so you can pick the one that fits your current task or stick with the same one if you like doing things the same way each time.

Gathering XP and Resources

To continue leveling, you need steady XP, which you gain through premeditated crimes, street crimes, collectibles, and missions. Completing side content ensures you remain strong enough to handle story missions.

These activities also reward resources, which are required for crafting suits and weapons that influence your combat effectiveness later in the game in Gotham Knights.

Spending Ability Points

Your AP, or Ability Points, come from leveling, collecting items, and finishing challenges. AP applies across all heroes, so when you earn AP with one character, every other hero receives the exact total.

When you switch to a different Knight, you can spend the points immediately, which keeps each hero at a usable level without forcing you to restart progression.

Unlocking Knighthood Skill Tree

Each hero has four Skill Trees, though the final one, Knighthood, remains locked until you meet specific requirements. You must complete a training exercise, defeat ten mini-bosses, and stop a set number of premeditated crimes.

Once unlocked, you gain more skills and also receive your Traversal Ability, which lets you navigate Gotham much faster. Since this movement option changes how you travel across the map, you benefit from unlocking Knighthood as early as possible.

Crafting Gear

Your growth depends on changing suits and weapons as you unlock better options. You can make new suits at the workstation in The Belfry or through the regular settings, but you can also find them by playing the game. You have to return to The Belfry to use crafted gear, so plan your changes.

When you unlock a suit style that you prefer visually, you can apply that appearance to another suit without changing the stats, letting you adjust your look while keeping the benefits of your chosen gear in Gotham Knights.

Managing Mods

Every suit and weapon can hold mods, which raise the stats of the item you place them in. You earn mods through caches and missions, and you can view them in the loadout menu. Mods follow tiers such as common, uncommon, rare, and legendary, but the tier alone does not determine strength.

A higher-level common mod can exceed the power of a lower-level legendary mod, so you must check the actual numbers before equipping anything in Gotham Knights.

Locating Caches

Batman stored caches across Gotham, and you can access them with any hero. When you find a potential cache, you complete a timed sequence through checkpoints.

Finishing the route reveals the cache location, which contains legendary gear and mods. Since these rewards match your current level, you may wait until later in the game to receive stronger items from the caches.

Switching Between Heroes

When playing solo, you should rotate heroes at times to match the demands of a mission or encounter. Each Knight has a distinct focus. Robin supports stealth-oriented runs, so you may switch to him if a mission demands quiet movement.

Redhood supplies severe direct damage, making him a better choice when you face dense groups of enemies. You can switch among the four days needed in Gotham Knights.

Using Fast Travel

When you need to go a long way, Fast Travel is a good way to save time. At first, you can only use the guide to fast-travel to The Belfry. You can fast travel to more places in the city after finishing Lucius Fox's side tasks.

Lucius gives you the job of checking drones in every district. Once you complete these checks, you can use Fast Travel to reach that area.

Advancing Hero Stories

Progressing through a hero’s level and activities unlocks cutscenes in The Belfry that expand that character’s personal story. Each hero has a separate mission line.

If you rotate heroes, you gain access to each of their story missions. The first requirement for these stories is the Knighthood unlock, and new missions appear as you finish the previous ones.

Using the Training Area

In The Belfry, there is a training setup near the kitchen that you can use to go over your skills or practice before you go out in Gotham Knights.

The combat dummy opens Basic Training, Abilities Training, and Advanced Training, which cover the systems you rely on during missions. This space lets you refresh your timing and confirm that you understand your abilities before taking on new objectives.
