Mewgenics Guide | How to Maximize Kitten Stats through Mutation
Here’s an easy guide on Maximizing Your Cats Through Breeding and Housing

If you want stronger cats, you need to improve your breeding system. Stats do not grow only from leveling. They also come from mutations and housing setup. When you breed two cats, the kitten can inherit perks, base stats, mutations, and passives. If you manage this well, your future kittens will be much stronger.
This guide explains what to breed, how to get mutations, and how to build the right room for it.
What to Breed
Start with the basics. Every cat has inner stats. These are the base numbers you see on them. You can dedicate one room only to breeding cats with strong inner stats. This can slowly raise the average base stats of your house.
You can also breed for class or color. For example, you could fill a room with ten cats that all share the same class and strong constitution. That way, you try to create a full team built around one idea.

This works, but it becomes easier later in the game when you have more rooms. Early on, you do not have enough space to specialize as much as you would like.
Mutations are usually stronger than raw stat breeding. Many mutations give +2 in one stat and -1 in another. Some are even stronger. For example, one mutation gives +1 intelligence at the end of every turn. That kind of effect adds up fast.
If you want big stat gains, focus on mutations.
Mutations From Events
You can see mutations by looking for the DNA icon on a cat.
One way to get mutations is through events. For example, you might get an eye mutation that gives a 10% chance to reflect projectiles. If it has no drawbacks, you should try to pass it down as much as possible.
Later, you may find better versions. For example, an eye mutation that gives +1 range and +1 reach. Cats can normally only have one eye mutation at a time. So you need to decide which one you want to keep in your gene pool.

You can combine different mutations in different body parts. Arms, legs, fur, eyes. The goal is to stack useful mutations onto a single cat line.
Some events, like portals, can give very strong mutation bases. If you find a cat with multiple good mutations, that cat becomes very important for breeding.
Mutations From Items
Some items also give mutations. One example is the Uranium Rod.
The Uranium Rod gives -6 constitution, but if the holder is down at the end of a fight, it gains a random mutation. Down means dead, but still on the field.
The idea is simple. Give the rod to a cat and let it die during the run. To make this easier, lower its constitution to around one or two. The Necromancer class works well here. It helps manage low constitution and allows casting spells while down.

You can do short runs to safely farm mutations. For example, clear only the first zone, like the Alley, then end the run and keep the mutated cat. You can repeat this to build a strong mutation base without risking too much.
Items like this can change how you play. Always read item descriptions carefully.
Mutations From Stray Cats
Stray cats are another source of mutations.
If you increase the appeal of your house, better strays will show up. Some of them can already have mutations or strong passives.
There is also a special case. If you have a gay cat in your house, it will not breed normally. However, it can attract another stray with similar traits. This can help you preserve certain mutations in a different way.
Strays can refresh your gene pool and bring in new mutation lines.

Mutations Overnight
Some mutations happen at night.
If a room has a high mutation stat, cats inside can evolve and gain a random mutation overnight when you see a message that a cat evolved during the night, that comes from the mutation room stat.
This does not depend on breeding. It is a separate chance that triggers during rest.
If you stack mutation furniture in one room, you can create new mutation lines without direct breeding.
Housing Stats Explained
To build a strong breeding room, you need to understand housing stats.
Appealing to the quality of the stray cats that visit your house. This stat applies to the whole house.
Comfort affects how often cats breed or fight. Positive comfort increases breeding. Negative comfort increases fights.

Stimulation improves the quality of newborn kittens. It also increases the chance of mutation during breeding.
A mutation increases the chance of a random mutation at night. It does not affect breeding inheritance.
There is also a hidden recovery stat that gives a small chance to heal injuries overnight.
How to Use These Stats
For a breeding room, focus mainly on comfort and stimulation.
High comfort means more breeding. Keep only a few selected cats inside. The more cats in a room, the lower the comfort. So avoid overcrowding.
High stimulation improves kittens' base stats and increases the likelihood of inherited mutations.
The mutation stat is for overnight changes only. If you want random evolutions, stack mutation furniture. But remember, it does not increase breeding mutation rates.
Appeal is less important for direct breeding. It matters more if you want better stray cats.
Also manage family lines. Do not let kittens stay in the same room as their parents once they grow. Breeding within the same family increases inbreeding.

Inbreeding and Tips to Start
Inbreeding causes negative mutations. These appear when you breed close family members. Some negative mutations can be used in specific builds, but most of the time you want to avoid them.
To manage this better, upgrade Tink, the NPC who asks for kittens. The more you level him, the more information you unlock. You will see base stats and inbreeding indicators. This helps you track your lines.
Check your house for cats with the DNA icon. If you already have one with a good mutation, move it into your breeding room.
To start clean, create one dedicated breeding room. Place two strong cats inside. Good base stats help, but one or two strong mutations matter more.
From there, build your line slowly. Keep the good mutations. Remove weak lines. Add fresh straws when needed. Over time, your house will produce much stronger kittens.
