The Long Sword is a new addition to the series, taking the place of the Sword and Shield. This weapon uses a Spirit Gauge to function.

You increase this gauge by winning a Head-to-Head or by using certain weapon skills. Unlike the Great Sword, these skills use a bit of Stamina to activate.

Choosing Your Stance

You spend your Spirit Gauge to enter a stance. Most weapons give you two choices. You can pick Lunge Stance or Retaliation Stance in Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection.

These stances use one level of your gauge every turn. Lunge Stance lets you land an extra hit when an ally attacks. Retaliation Stance lets you strike back when an enemy hits a team member. You should choose the one that fits how the battle is going.

Finisher Moves and Defense

While you are in a stance, you can use special skills to finish your combo. These moves use up all the Spirit Gauge you have left for a big burst of damage.

These finishers also help you stay safe. They can block attacks from enemies if they try to hit you. The main goal is to build your gauge, enter a stance for extra hits, and then end with a big finisher.
