You need the Sha-Chi Furnace Inspection Crank to operate the furnace mechanism on the ground floor, but the game places it high up on the descent route. Here is the exact path you need to take to grab it without getting lost.

Reaching the Summit of the Steel Tower

Before you can get the crank, you have to climb all the way to the top of the Steel Tower. Start on the ground level where the furnace sits and take the stairs up in Phantom Blade Zero.

Watch out for the Maskwalker Powderkeg enemies on the stairs and walkways. These enemies explode after they drop, so take them out from a distance using your Feather Bow to avoid taking cheap damage. Keep climbing past the bronze Maskwalkers until you hit the upper levels and reach the Valley Sha-Chi Tower Summit bell.

Ring the bell to secure your checkpoint. You can talk to the Watchful Shadow Warden standing nearby to pick up the A Severed Mindseal side quest before moving on.

Finding the Sha-Chi Furnace Inspection Crank

Once you hit the summit, head over to the scratched wall right next to the Watchful Shadow Warden. Climb up the wall to reach the open roof area in Phantom Blade Zero.

From the roof, cross the wooden bridge. At the end of the bridge, drop down the ladder. Waiting right at the bottom is an aggressive Shadow Warden.

Engage and defeat this Shadow Warden. The moment he goes down, he drops the Sha-Chi Furnace Inspection Crank directly into your inventory.

Opening the Shortcut Back to the Furnace

Do not run backward the way you came. Grab the Forged Metal sitting inside the large pipe near the first ladder, then climb down the next ladder right beside the spot where you fought the guard.

Turn immediately to your right at the bottom of that ladder. You will see another ladder hanging over a ledge. Kick it down to unlock a direct shortcut back to the first floor of the Steel Tower.

Now you can climb down and reattach the crank to the central furnace without clearing the entire tower again in Phantom Blade Zero.
