Lock picking in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered can range from easy to difficult. To pick locks easily, you must have security experience and use lockpicks.

The more tumblers that must be inserted, the more difficult it becomes. The higher your Security skill level, the simpler it becomes to press the right buttons at the right time.

Tumbler Controls

The most basic step in starting lockpicking is to go to the lock and simply knock the tumblers to get a sense of what they are like. What you can do is just wait for one of those opportunities when the tumbler is slowly rising.

You want to set the tumbler when it is entirely at the top. You can view the controls at the lower part of the screen. If you overpick a tumbler too quickly, you will break your lockpick.

Timing and Technique

The simplest way is to tap slowly on the tumbler so that it starts going up slowly. For instance, if you tap and it goes up quickly, it is not likely the correct time. You need to wait for it to move up slowly, making it easier for you to react. After it slowly rises, hit the spacebar once it reaches the top.

Saving Lock Picks

If you're not patient and attempt to pick the lock too quickly, you'll pick up one of the fast-moving ones, and if you try to set the tumbler, then you'll damage your lockpick.

Let's say you hit it, and it will move quickly. It's challenging to time it. Wait for a slow one instead. That's your best chance to get the tumbler set successfully.
