The Outlast Trials Guide | How to Complete the Main Mission in Fun Park

As seen in The Outlast Trials, the Fun Park is a complicated place with many zones and goals that are all linked. This guide shows you how to quickly get through each part of Grind the Bad Apples and finish the main task without getting lost. 

You will learn how to move through the Fairground, access the Root Canal Ride, and finish the mission objectives while avoiding threats and maintaining progress toward completion.

Layout of the Fun Park

The Fun Park is split into three key areas: the Fairground, the Root Canal Ride, and The Barn. In the Grind the Bad Apples mission, you will explore both the Fairground and the Root Canal Ride. 

The Punish the Miscreants and Open the Gates MK Challenges take place within The Barn.

The Fairground is structured like a maze of rides, booths, and paths that can easily disorient you. Many of the routes behind the stalls lead to dead ends, making it essential to observe your surroundings carefully. 

Use the stalls and rides strategically to break line of sight when being pursued, as this area contains frequent enemy encounters.

Moving into the Root Canal Ride, you will enter narrow interiors filled with maintenance tunnels, storage spaces, and work areas. This section is tightly built and patrolled, requiring you to stay alert and make use of dark corners or blocked paths to evade detection. 

Finally, The Barn acts as an operational hub for the MK Challenges, giving access routes to the Fairground for collecting items or progressing objectives. 

The upper floor of The Barn holds several dark rooms that often contain resources, enemies, and objectives worth checking carefully.

Main Mission: Grind the Bad Apples

During Grind the Bad Apples, your task is to infiltrate the Root Canal Ride, locate a cart loaded with mannequins, and deliver it to a grinder. You will begin the mission in the Fairground, where you must cross the area and locate the entrance to the Root Canal Ride.

Upon reaching the ride, the first objective will activate: collect three Tickets to gain entry. These Tickets are obtained by completing three carnival games located nearby. To begin, enter the kitchen across from the ticket booth and gather the floating Hearts from the cooking pots.

Next, take the Hearts to the carnival games and throw them at the moving targets. Each game requires you to hit three targets to earn a Ticket. After earning a Ticket, go through the stall’s back door to collect it. Repeat this process for all three games, then return to the Root Canal Ride and hand the Tickets to the Mannequin standing at the entrance.

When all Tickets are submitted, the main doors to the ride will open. Proceed inside to trigger a brief encounter with Mother Gooseberry, who will appear and deliver a short dialogue before vanishing.

Once the sequence ends, a cart filled with mannequins will roll into the room, and the gates to the Root Canal Ride will open. Begin pushing the cart along the track until you reach three Barriers. 

Each barrier is linked to a device on the wall that must be disabled. Follow the blue wires connected to the barriers to locate these devices and interact with them to disarm each one.

When the devices are deactivated, continue pushing the cart. Eventually, the water flow in the ride will stop, halting the cart’s movement. To restore it, you must activate four Pumps, each linked to colored pipes—blue, yellow, red, and green. 

Follow each pipe carefully through the area to locate the matching pressure pump. These paths can be complex and will often lead to encounters with Mother Gooseberry, so stay alert and move cautiously.

Each pump connects to a Valve that controls the pressure. Some of these valves are decoys that will electrocute you upon interaction, so approach them carefully. 

Turn the correct valve to activate its pressure gauge. After all four valves are turned, water will begin flowing again, allowing you to resume pushing the cart forward.

Continue moving the cart until you reach the Grinder. At this stage, Mother Gooseberry will appear once more and attack. Lead her away from the objective, then return quickly to push the cart into the Grinder. 

Once the mannequins are destroyed, the mission objectives will be marked as complete. Escape from Mother Gooseberry and proceed back to the shuttle to finish the trial.
