The ASUS ROG Strix XG27AQWMG is a 27-inch (nominal) gaming monitor that utilizes next-generation OLED technology and offers a more affordable price point compared to other monitors.
It stands out in today's monitor market due to its high refresh rate, advanced OLED panel design, and high-end features.

First Impressions
It had all the parts you would anticipate, such as the stand, power cord, DisplayPort/HDMI cables, and USB hub connectors. The metal stand lends it a sense of safety and power.
"True Black Glossy" is the finish of the monitor's screen. This glossy coating keeps the deep blacks without the purple haze that other glossy OLEDs have.
When we took off the protective cover, we could see right away how thin the panel was (thanks to OLED technology).
The cooling parts and heatsink were behind the panel instead of making the screen deeper. This is one of the better-built and finished gamer monitors we've seen at this price point.
Panel & Visual Quality
ASUS claims that the XG27AQWMG's "Tandem OLED" technology provides approximately 15% more peak brightness, 25% more color volume, and a 60% longer lifespan compared to older white OLED (WOLED) panels.
The resolution is QHD (2560 × 1440), and the refresh rate can go up to 280 Hz. The response time is said to be about 0.03 ms (GTG). The panel covers 99.5% of DCI-P3 and has a contrast ratio of about 1,500,000:1. It also supports true 10-bit color.
In real life, we saw that HDR scenes with large, bright elements, such as fire or sunlight, really stood out. The combination of brightness and contrast created an experience that surpassed most other OLED gaming monitors we've tried. The "true black" feature of OLED remains a significant advantage for darker scenes.
On the other hand, the screen is somewhat reflective due to its glossy finish. To get the best results, you'll need to control the light and reflections in your setup.
Gaming Performance
Suppose your PC hardware can handle high frame rates. In that case, the 280 Hz refresh rate at 1440p resolution makes for a very smooth gaming experience.
The panel boasts a high refresh rate and a fast response time, resulting in minimal input lag and exceptional motion clarity. When bright things are on dark backgrounds, the OLED also doesn't have as many blooming problems or halo effects that are common with backlit LCD monitors.
We tried out fast-paced shooter-style games and found that the combination of clarity, contrast, and responsiveness made it easier to see details, even in darker or more muted settings, than on many regular monitors.
Of course, how well it works will depend on your PC's CPU and GPU, as well as whether your game can run at 1440p at 200–300 frames per second.

Features and Connections
The monitor has a USB hub (with two USB-A ports), two HDMI ports, one DisplayPort 1.4 (with DSC), and a headphone jack. The stand can be tilted, turned, and raised or lowered, and it can also support full pivot (portrait) mode and VESA 100 × 100mm mounting.
There is a built-in "Neo Proximity Sensor" that detects when you walk away from the screen and automatically reduces display activity (this feature is part of the panel-care feature).
On the software side, certain settings are useful for gaming, such as shadow boost, crosshair overlay, and uniform brightness mode. These settings make it easier to switch between working on your computer and playing games.
Pros:
- OLED gives great contrast and black levels.
- Its very high refresh rate and quick response time make it ideal for competitive gaming.
- Vivid colors and bright HDR performance
- High-quality construction, adjustable stand, and features that gamers will love
Cons:
- The glossy screen could cause reflections that are hard to ignore, so the lighting needs to be just right.
- People who prefer 4K or ultra-wide formats may not be satisfied with a 1440p resolution.
- As is usual with high-end OLED, the price is higher than that of many standard LCD monitors, and there may not be many available.
Final Thoughts
The ASUS ROG Strix XG27AQWMG is a great choice for many gamers because it features a high-end OLED panel with excellent refresh and response times, yet it costs less than ultra-high-end models.
This monitor is hard to beat if you're looking for excellent gaming graphics, high HDR contrast, and low latency. Just ensure your gaming setup (GPU and lighting) is ready to utilize all its features.
