Every part of the Xbox extended universe has recently seen important improvements, from updates to mobile apps to better audio and new streaming platforms.
Across hardware, software, cloud services, and content libraries, a steady wave of improvements has reshaped how games are accessed, played, and experienced going into 2026.

More Handheld-Optimized Games for Gaming on the Go
If you like to play games on the go, games that work well on handheld devices are always a big deal, especially when it comes to avoiding the little problems that can happen while you're playing.
The good news is that a few more games have been added to the list of games that work well on handheld devices, so they are now perfect for playing on the go. This includes big games coming out in 2025, like The Outer Worlds 2, Octopath Traveler Zero, and Clear Obscure Expedition 33.
Expanding the Xbox Play Anywhere Library
We’ve also seen a significant expansion of Xbox Play Anywhere titles. For anyone who needs a reminder, these are games that can be played across Xbox platforms with a single purchase, carrying your progress and save data wherever you go. Fans of Dome Keeper, The Finals, Routine, and many others now have even more flexibility in how and where they play.
Mouse and Keyboard Support Continues to Grow
Support has grown even more for players who like to use a mouse and keyboard. You can now click and type your way through titles like Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, giving you more choice in how you experience your games, especially on PC and compatible devices.
Stream Your Own Games Across More Devices
Several new titles have also been added to the Stream Your Own Games collection. If you own these games, you can now stream them to any cloud-compatible Xbox device. Little Nightmares 3, Resident Evil Village, and a few additional games that may or may not make you nervous are now supported.
Cloud Gaming Gets Smarter with Save Sync Indicators
The Game Sync Save Indicator for PC and handhelds is another useful quality-of-life improvement for cloud gaming. As the name suggests, this feature shows the status of your cloud saves, helping you avoid progress loss when switching between platforms or streaming sessions.

Xbox App Coming to More Smart TVs
More and more devices can stream Xbox games. In 2026, the Xbox app will be available on Hisense and Vizio Home OS-powered smart TVs. You can pick up a controller and start playing right away on your TV without having to plug in a console.
The same experience is already available on compatible Samsung smart TVs, turning cloud gaming into a truly console-free option.
Xbox PC App Expands to ARM-Based Windows Devices
The Xbox PC software is also becoming more popular and will now work on Windows 11 PCs that use ARM chips. This lets players download games to their own devices, including games from the Xbox Game Pass library. This opens up more hardware options without having to rely only on streaming.
Xbox Mobile App Gets a Cleaner Store Experience
The Xbox mobile app hasn't been made available on any new platforms, but it has gotten a number of useful feature updates. You can now purchase games directly through the app, along with access to a dedicated store tab that supports wishlists and add-on searches. Altogether, this makes browsing and buying games far smoother when you’re away from your console or PC.
Audio Upgrade for Xbox Wireless Headset
The Xbox Wireless Headset has also picked up a firmware update aimed at improving audio quality on Windows11 PCs and handhelds, including the ROG Xbox Ally.
The update adds support for Bluetooth low energy audio, which lets you share game audio between multiple Bluetooth devices and gives you high-fidelity sound with less lag, longer battery life, and the ability to share game audio between devices. It’s especially useful when a game soundtrack hits just right, and you want to push that audio beyond your headset.
Highlights from the Indie Selects Anniversary Collection
There are a few more updates that are worth mentioning. The ID@Xbox team has selected several 2025 titles for its Indie Selects Anniversary Collection, including Despelote, Ninja Gaiden Ragebound, Kronos The New Dawn, I Am Your Beast, After Love EP, and Lost Records Bloom and Rage.
Anything in the Indie Selects collection is usually a good choice, and now is a great time to look around because many of these games are on sale.

Developer Direct Sets the Mood for 2026
Developer Direct in January gave gamers a sneak peek at two of the year's most anticipated games, Forza Horizon 6 and Fable. This helped kick off the 2026 gaming calendar. The showcase gave us a better idea of what's coming up and raised our hopes for the year ahead.
A Strong Start to the Year Ahead
With all of these updates taken together, 2026 has started on a strong note for Xbox. The ecosystem keeps growing in ways that make gaming more flexible, accessible, and connected than ever.
For example, cloud gaming and hardware support are getting better, and apps are getting smarter and audio experiences are getting richer.
