Battlefield 3: A system hog in the making?

As more information about the highly anticipated Battlefield 3 surfaces, DICE's new project really seems to become a love letter to PC gamers.

DICE executive producer Patrick Bach has already stated that he's confident that the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions will be the best-looking console games to come out this year, but the PC version will also receive a special treatment.

Map sizes and maximum player limits will be significantly reduced on the consoles, and it is probable that the game will support DX11 graphical effects.

The new Frostbite 2 engine has reportedly been designed with the next generation of consoles in mind, allowing the developers to already showcase this potential on the PC, which is technically already next-gen at this point.

As a result, there are rumours suggesting that only 5-7 percent of the PC gamers will be able to max out Battlefield 3. It is tough to say, though, how many PC owners are included in this estimation.

Either way, it is very likely that you are going to need a powerful rig if you want to max out Battlefield 3 on your PC, but if the game can provide us with a first glimpse into the next generation, it's gonna be worth the trouble.
