New dev updates reveal shifting class balance plans, Battle Royale changes, returning modes, and ongoing fixes affecting vehicles, operations, and lighting issues in RedSec.

You’re getting a fresh wave of Battlefield 6 update details straight from the developers, and it’s a mix of upcoming experiments, current Season 3 adjustments, and a few issues that are still being ironed out as you play. A lot of what’s being discussed is aimed at near-future updates, including possible changes in Season 3 Phase 2 or 3 coming around June, along with some longer-term plans beyond this season.

One of the biggest talking points right now is class balance. Battlefield Studios is actively looking into a broader adjustment that could affect gadgets and grenade access across classes. You’re seeing early discussion around whether things like smoke grenades should be more widely available, especially for assault players.

Community managers have hinted that the team is actively discussing general class balance, including how gadgets and grenades are distributed, but nothing is locked in yet. The key takeaway is that testing around class flexibility could be coming soon, which would likely shift how different roles play in matches.

On the Battle Royale side, there’s also a clear update on how solos will be handled.

Solos are confirmed to be arriving later in Season 3, but they won’t be part of ranked play. If you’ve been running ranked matches in RedSec, you’re currently locked into quads only, and that’s staying that way for now. The developers are also aware that ranked matchmaking has been struggling, especially once players hit gold rank, where queue times start getting noticeably longer. That’s tied to the system itself, and it’s something they’re actively working on behind the scenes. Solos will instead launch as a standard public mode when they arrive, and ranked adjustments will continue separately.

Looking slightly further ahead, there are also early details surfacing about future seasons. Season 5 is expected to take you somewhere entirely new for the franchise, which is being positioned as a fresh location rather than a returning one. Alongside that, Season 3 is also bringing back a familiar-style mode with Obliteration.

That version is set to run 32 versus 32, and each team will have three MCOM stations, closely matching the classic Battlefield 4 structure. If you remember that mode from earlier entries, you’re basically getting a modern version of that same setup brought back into rotation.

There are also a few immediate gameplay disruptions you’ve probably already noticed if you’ve been playing Season 3.

One of the more impactful changes is on Railway to Go Breakthrough, where jets have been temporarily disabled. This was done because of a ticket count issue linked to the vehicle. Basically, jets were causing an imbalance in how matches were tracking progression, so they’ve been pulled while the developers investigate. Helis are still in play, but the air balance on that map is noticeably different right now, especially if you’re used to heavy jet activity shaping the flow of Breakthrough matches. The team has said jets will return once a fix is confirmed and tested.

Alongside that, there’s also a rotation change affecting operations. Operation Augur has been temporarily removed from the active schedule as Season 3 rolls out. This mode has been one of the more talked-about experiences in the community, and while its removal is only temporary, it still changes the current playlist structure quite a bit. The developers have acknowledged that operations as a whole are a major point of interest for players, especially around pacing, map structure, and balance between attackers and defenders.

Even though it’s out of rotation right now, Operation Augur is expected to return later in Season 3.

The current plan is to bring it back once adjustments are made and once the team is more confident about matchmaking health across all modes. They’re looking at feedback and internal data together, including how long matches run, how sectors feel, and how different classes affect overall flow. You can expect it to come back later in the season once those updates are finalized, rather than being permanently removed.

On top of mode changes, there’s also a pretty frustrating technical issue affecting RedSec. Some players have been running into a lighting bug that essentially breaks visibility during matches. When it happens, the entire environment can become overly bright, almost like every light source is amplified to extreme levels.

It can make it hard to see anything properly, and in some cases, it forces you to restart the game or leave the match entirely just to recover normal visuals. The developers have confirmed they’ve identified the cause of the issue and are working on a fix that should arrive in the next client update, rather than being delayed into a larger seasonal patch.

That means you’re likely to see it addressed relatively soon.

Overall, Season 3 is a mix of ongoing adjustments and active problem-solving. You’ve got class balance discussions still in motion, Battle Royale expansions with solos coming later, and returning content like Obliteration being reintroduced in a familiar format. At the same time, you’re also dealing with temporary removals like jets on certain maps and Operation Augur being pulled from rotation, all while technical issues like the RedSec lighting bug are being patched out.

Even with the rough edges, the direction clearly points toward more experimentation with gameplay systems and mode structure throughout the season. You’re likely to keep seeing updates roll in over the coming weeks, especially as the developers move closer to Phase 2 and Phase 3 of Season 3 and continue to adjust how everything fits together in live gameplay.
