Black Ops 1 and 2 PS5 Ports Receive New Backend Update
A fresh backend update just gave fans the clearest sign yet that these classic ports are almost here, and the timing window is shrinking fast.

If you've been keeping tabs on the Black Ops and Black Ops 2 PS5 port situation, you already know this has turned into one of the biggest ongoing conversations in the Call of Duty community over the last few weeks. Now that July has officially arrived, the chatter around the Black Ops and Black Ops 2 PS5 port has only gotten louder, and for good reason.
Both of these re-releases are confirmed to be landing on PS4 and PS5 sometime this month, though an exact date still hasn't been locked in. What changed things in the last day or so is some solid new evidence pointing toward the Black Ops and Black Ops 2 PS5 port being closer than people think.

The tracker known as PlayStation Game Size, the same account that originally spotted these titles sitting in the backend database and kicked off this whole rumor mill in the first place, confirmed that both games just picked up a new title update.
Specifically, a 1.02 update was added to the system for each game.
To be clear, you can't actually download or play anything yet. The update isn't live, and there's nothing to install right now. This is purely something happening behind the scenes on PlayStation's end. But it's still a meaningful clue, because it tends to follow a pattern you can actually track.
Whenever a major patch is about to drop, you usually see it appear in the database roughly a week or so ahead of time, sometimes just a few days out. That's exactly how things played out with past Warzone updates, and it's the same story with seasonal content drops and mid-season patches too.
The pattern has been consistent enough that this backend listing for the Black Ops and Black Ops 2 PS5 port feels like a genuine signal rather than a coincidence. Outlets covering the scene picked up on this too, confirming that both games received new updates in the PlayStation Store backend and reiterating that the release is still targeted for sometime this month.
That report sparked some back and forth in the community, with content creator HunterTV pushing the idea that Activision should just release these games as soon as possible. He argued there's no real reason to keep holding off since the people excited for these ports aren't concerned with anything going on with Black Ops 7 right now.
CharlieIntel responded by saying the delay likely just comes down to making sure the games are fully polished and ready before launch, not some marketing decision. Hunter followed up, saying he'd love nothing more than to spend the rest of July playing through both games. CharlieIntel agreed that it really is just a matter of readiness at this point, adding that it should be arriving relatively soon.
That said, don't expect anything to drop out of nowhere this weekend.
If you're hoping for a surprise release right this second, that's not how this is going to play out. A launch like this always comes with an announcement first. Expect an official reveal with a set date, giving you time to preload the game or check out the store listing ahead of release day.
Now, looking at the calendar, there's a pretty logical way to narrow down when the Black Ops and Black Ops 2 PS5 port is actually going to land. Call of Duty tends to avoid overlapping big announcements, since stacking events on top of each other just splits attention and works against everyone involved.

That rules out the back half of July almost immediately, since July 23 marks the start of Season 5, and that's going to dominate marketing, social posts, and general hype for at least a week or two afterward, running right through the end of the month.
The middle of July isn't much better for a Black Ops and Black Ops 2 PS5 port drop either. Call of Duty Champs is happening that same stretch, alongside a Modern Warfare-focused event tied to Fanatics Fest, both reportedly landing the weekend of July 16 through 19.
Those weeks are almost certainly going to be packed with promotion.
The franchise will want full attention on its biggest tournament of the year for Black Ops 7, plus the buzz around Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer being playable out in New York City. That leaves the first half of July, essentially the upcoming week, as the most realistic window left for the Black Ops and Black Ops 2 PS5 port to actually go live.
It gives the release some breathing room before attention shifts toward Champs, the Modern Warfare event, and eventually Season 5. So over the next ten days or so, keep an eye out, because this stretch lines up as the most likely opportunity for these two classic titles to finally make their comeback on PlayStation.
