GTA Online's Final Season Could Signal the Start of GTA 6's Next Marketing Phase
Rockstar's upcoming GTA Online update is expected to close out one of the game's biggest chapters, while recent website changes and key dates suggest GTA 6's marketing campaign could soon move into its next phase.

Grand Theft Auto Online is preparing to receive what is widely believed to be its final major season before Grand Theft Auto 6 arrives, making the upcoming update one of Rockstar's most important releases in years.
Although GTA 6 continues to dominate headlines, Rockstar's immediate focus appears to be giving GTA Online one last major moment before shifting attention toward its next blockbuster. That timing has also fueled speculation that a new phase of GTA 6's marketing campaign could begin shortly after the update launches.

Rockstar recently confirmed that the next GTA Online update will launch on July 14, introducing the Courts Center Heist.
The update will send players into Los Santos' premier cultural space alongside the mysterious Mr. Faber and his fixer, Raf, as they attempt to steal valuable artwork in what Rockstar describes as a blockbuster new score. It also marks the first brand-new heist added to GTA Online in several years, making it one of the game's biggest content additions in a long time.
The update carries extra significance because many believe it represents the final major season for GTA Online before Grand Theft Auto 6 launches next year. While Rockstar has already confirmed that GTA 6 will not release with its online component on day one, this update is still expected to serve as one of the final large-scale expansions for the current version of GTA Online.
Even if another smaller update arrives later, the July release appears positioned as the game's last major content drop before Rockstar begins transitioning players toward its next generation. That makes the July update an important milestone in GTA Online's long-running lifecycle.
That schedule may also explain why Rockstar has remained relatively quiet about GTA 6 since pre-orders became available. Following the initial announcement, the company has not released another trailer, gameplay footage, or major promotional material.
Instead of splitting attention between both games, Rockstar appears focused on allowing GTA Online's latest expansion to have its own space before moving forward with the next stage of GTA 6's marketing campaign. That approach would allow each release to have its moment in the spotlight.
Recent changes to Rockstar's official website have nevertheless sparked fresh speculation about what comes next.
Players noticed that the GTA 6 "Pre-Order Now" banner has disappeared from the mobile version of Rockstar's website after previously featuring unique page transitions. While the desktop version never displayed the banner, its removal on mobile has led many fans to believe the first phase of GTA 6's summer marketing campaign has officially concluded.

The company's approach also differs from the strategy used during the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2. That marketing campaign introduced pre-orders alongside a trailer before revealing collector's editions roughly a month later.
GTA 6 appears to have reversed that order, with pre-orders launching first and additional promotional material expected afterward. If Rockstar follows a similar monthly schedule, the next major announcement could arrive toward the end of July or during the opening days of August.
Even with GTA 6 generating enormous anticipation, the game's visibility has slightly cooled following the pre-order launch. On the PlayStation Store, GTA 6 is no longer among the top five trending titles, with recent releases such as College Football 27, Fortnite, NBA 2K, and the newly released version of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag temporarily taking those spots.
Another important date on Rockstar's calendar arrives on August 7, when Take-Two Interactive will hold its next quarterly earnings call. The meeting is scheduled considerably earlier than many previous investor presentations, making it another event fans are watching closely.
While companies rarely announce major games during earnings calls themselves, Rockstar has often shared significant news before these meetings, allowing executives to discuss recent announcements with investors. That makes the weeks leading up to the August 7 earnings call an important period to watch for GTA 6 news.
Several fans have also speculated that Rockstar could reveal something around the FIFA World Cup Final, one of the most watched sporting events in the world.
However, with GTA Online's major update launching just days earlier, that scenario now appears less likely. Rockstar usually allows its biggest titles to take center stage before releasing the next big announcement, so it’s safe to say that GTA Online’s update will be the main thing the company has on its plate during that period.

Rockstar’s broader marketing plan also indicates players shouldn’t anticipate weekly reveals. Instead, the company usually spaces out major reveals over a few months. This could be followed by a pre-order campaign, then a new trailer, then gameplay showcases, and finally a launch trailer closer to release.
While Trailer 3 is still the most anticipated reveal, Rockstar has a few other options for its next announcement. The company could announce collector's editions, release new screenshots, start outdoor advertising, or even hide subtle GTA 6 teasers inside the upcoming GTA Online update.
For now, however, the spotlight remains firmly on GTA Online. With the Courts Center Heist launching on July 14 and potentially closing out the game's final major season before GTA 6, Rockstar appears determined to give its long-running online experience one final moment before beginning the next chapter.
Once that update has been out for a while, attention is expected to shift back toward Grand Theft Auto 6 and whatever Rockstar has planned for the next stage of its highly anticipated marketing campaign. With several key dates approaching, the wait for the next official reveal may not be much longer.
