Halo Comes to PlayStation? Microsoft’s 2026 Cross-Platform Explosion Will Shake the Industry

As part of its 25th anniversary plan, Microsoft is planning a lot of big releases for 2026, including the return of several well-known brands. The Verge and other industry news sources say that Halo: Campaign Evolved is likely to come out in the summer of 2026.
That fits with plans made inside the company to get the game ready for the busy fall and holiday seasons. A big deal is that Halo: Campaign Evolved, a complete remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved, will be released on PS55, Xbox One, and PC in 2026.

This is the first time a Halo game has come out on a PlayStation console.
The story has been rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5, which has improved graphics, controls, and the ability to play with other people. Microsoft's roadmap allegedly puts Fable in the fall or early winter of 2026 and Gears of War: E-Day, a new prequel in the Gears series, in the second half of that year.
These plans are partly meant to avoid conflicts with the huge release of GTA 6 in November 2026, which might make other first-party games less important. Kiln, another 2026 game from Double Fine, is set to come out earlier this year, in April, and it is already confirmed to come out on PS5.
People who own a PlayStation can try out Microsoft's marketing style before some of the bigger multi-platform Xbox hits come out.
When it comes to Starfield, reliable leaks have said that it will come out on PS5 on April 7, 2026, along with what is thought to be a "2.0" update and new expansion material. Product listings and codes in the report give the April date more weight, but neither Microsoft nor Bethesda has officially announced the date.
It's also important to note that Gears of War: E-Day is set to come out in the latter part of 2026, but an official PS5 version has not yet been revealed. But after Gears of War: Reloaded comes out on PlayStation in 2025, industry experts and news sources say that future Gears games will likely use a similar cross-platform approach.
Job posts even imply that cross-platform development is still going on.
All of these plans show how Microsoft's release approach has changed over the past few years. The leaders of Xbox Game Studios have said that they want to release first-party games on PS5 in a "more consistent" way. Leaders of Halo Studios have also said that Halo will be available on PS5 "going forward," not just as a trial.
According to reports from several sources, Halo: Campaign Evolved was set to come out in the summer of 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC with a new, updated campaign version. According to the current plans, Fable will come out in the fall or autumn of 2026 for PS5 and other systems.

Gears of War: E-Day is set for the second half of 2026, and it's likely to come out on PS5 as well. Kiln will be out on PS5 in April 2026. Starfield said that the PS5 would come out on April 7, 2026, along with big updates.
All of these point to a competitive cross-platform release year for Microsoft, with more and more Xbox games being played by PlayStation users and key dates picked to get the most attention. This could lead to one of the most flexible plans that works on multiple platforms in recent memory.
