Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is finally giving fans a taste of what’s coming, and the leaks and new details are, what should I say…tasty, I suppose. Recently, brand-new gameplay footage surfaced straight from the official Nintendo of America YouTube channel. Yes, you read that right—the leak actually came from Nintendo themselves.
The videos are unlisted, intended for holiday marketing, so they weren’t supposed to be live just yet. But lucky for us, you can still watch them via the link that’s been shared, and they reveal quite a bit more than we should know about the next chapter in the legendary Metroid Prime series.

First off, the leaked gameplay gives us a slow-motion, frame-by-frame look at some boss encounters. At the beginning, we see Samus facing a boss named Carvex, which feels reminiscent of the early plant boss from the original Metroid Prime. This encounter is clearly very early in the game; Samus starts with no energy tanks, which suggests it’s happening right at the very start.
Nintendo also included some technical details on screen, letting players know that the game will support 120 FPS on compatible displays, though frame rates are capped at 60 FPS for 4K output. In handheld mode, the game can run at 120 FPS at 1080p, while 4K docking limits performance to 60 FPS. This is a big deal because Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is clearly aiming to be one of the first major titles to take full advantage of the Switch 2.
Moving on to the second trailer, the pace picks up and introduces a boss fight we haven’t seen before.
Known as Zelios, this enemy is fully shielded, with hexagon-shaped plates forming a moving armor that makes hitting the weak point a careful challenge. And it looks like Samus will need precise timing and possibly missile attacks to break through the shield. The footage confirms this is an early boss fight, with three energy tanks acquired and the boss health already starting to dip.
Beyond the combat, there’s plenty of story and world-building that has been teased. Samus will explore a vast world called Viewros, which spans multiple biomes, including humid forests, scorching deserts, icy caves, misty ruins, and even volcanic regions we’ve glimpsed in previous footage. One of the most exciting additions is the Vi-O-La bike. If Samus is the heart of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, then the Vi-O-La is the heartbeat. It does everything from traverse large distances, attack enemies at high speed, dodge attacks, and even spin for energy-based attacks.
Vi-O-La also introduces mechanics like turbo mode, which boosts speed temporarily; a defensive energy field to block attacks; and a projection trail that leaves an afterimage, confusing enemy sensors.
The psychic powers Samus gains in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond are equally fascinating. While exploring ancient ruins on Viewros, she discovers traces of a lost civilization and develops psychic abilities that allow her to do stuff like interact with alien structures, control ancient machines, and even manipulate gravitational fields in combat.

But these powers come with a cost—overusing them affects her mind and body, meaning you need to balance the risk-reward ratio when using them. The psychic mechanics may also tie into platforming puzzles, allowing Samus to reach areas she normally couldn’t.
Viewros is full of unique ecosystems. In the tropical forest, bioluminescent predators use camouflage, icy caves with sound from crystalline structures, and deserts hide massive subterranean colossi. Samus will need to adapt her strategy based on the environment and use her psychic abilities to decipher animal behavior and uncover hidden ruins. Sounds like a bit
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond also introduces new characters who may be allies or enemies, depending on player decisions.
Sylux, a mysterious warrior clad in sky-blue armor, shares a mental connection with Samus, though their intentions are unclear. Ais Raxus, a massive creature with both organic and metallic components, serves as a guardian of Viewros’s depths and can either help or hinder Samus based on actions in the game. And Leour appears to have knowledge about the origin of Samus’s psychic powers, though their allegiance remains uncertain.
Sylux, in particular, is described as a mirror of Samus, wielding the same psychic powers. Created from failed Federation experiments aimed at replicating Samus’s abilities, Sylux’s presence is central to the story, raising questions about morality and the limits of the human mind. On top of all of this, Nintendo has confirmed amiibo support, and the leaked materials feature stunning new artwork and character renders we haven’t seen before.
Finally, there’s the ongoing speculation about a potential Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Direct.
While there’s no guarantee, insiders say there's a big chance it goes through. It’s possible Nintendo could hold a full Direct, but if not, they may release a detailed overview trailer highlighting the game’s mechanics and story. Either way, with the release date approaching on December 4th, there's not much time left to wait.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is shaping up to be something beyond anything the series has done until now. It’s clear that Nintendo is aiming to deliver an experience that both honors the franchise’s legacy and pushes it forward in a golden age for the Switch ecosystem.
December is almost here, and with it, the opportunity to finally dive into Viewros, ride the Vi-O-La, unlock the mysteries of the psychic powers, and face foes both new and familiar. The anticipation for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has never been higher. Period. Whether or not Nintendo decides to hold a Direct for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, there's no denying that the game is in its prime right now, and there's nothing stopping the hype train.
