There are times when a Nintendo Direct comes and goes with a few big announcements. This one felt different. From the beginning to the end, Nintendo's June 2026 showcase was full of news. Nintendo and third-party publishers showed over 48 games. By the end of the show, fans had seen a new Zelda project, a new Xenoblade adventure and the long-awaited return of Kingdom Hearts IV.
This kept the show from getting boring and always had something new to offer. It wasn’t just the sheer volume of games that blew people away. It was the range. Nintendo’s showcase had something for everybody, whether you wanted brand new games, remasters of older ones, ports or updates on what’s coming next.

There were plenty of big surprises, no matter whether you’re into RPGs, action games, sports games or adventure games. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was one of the biggest announcements. The classic adventure title from Nintendo has a huge following, and its return immediately made it one of the most buzzed-about parts of the event.
The reveal brought a lot of happiness to gamers who were seeing the beloved classic for the first time in a long while.
A big first-party game was unveiled with Nintendo Switch Sports Resort. Woohoo Island is back in the new game, which is a place that many old Nintendo fans remember fondly. The first Nintendo Switch Sports game was one of the biggest hits on the system, introducing motion-controlled racing to millions of players.
Now, Nintendo looks like it's ready to build on that success with a bigger and better sequel. But for many RPG fans, Xenoblade Genesis may have been the biggest surprise of the whole show.
No one saw Monolith Soft's next big game coming, but it got people's attention right away. Many fans of the series were expecting news about Xenoblade at some point, but not many thought it would happen during this Direct. Xenoblade has become one of Nintendo's most popular role-playing games because of its huge worlds, cinematic stories, and beautiful landscapes that were shown in early footage.
Along with the show, news came that older Xenoblade Chronicles games will be getting updated versions for the Nintendo Switch 2. The goal of these remasters is to make the games look and run better and make it easier for beginners to try out the series before Xenoblade Genesis comes out. Together, the announcements make it easy for both longtime fans and newcomers to get into the series.

During the showcase, Fire Emblem Fortunes also did very well. After months of few updates, Nintendo finally announced a date for when the strategy RPG will be out. The game is still one of Nintendo's most-anticipated new releases, and the most recent trailer gave us a better look at the characters, world, and tactical battle systems.
Even though Fire Emblem caused a lot of excitement, another surprise news quickly took the lead.
Kingdom Hearts IV finally came back with new gameplay video after being quiet for a few years. This was the first serious look at the game in many years. The surprise showing, especially during a Nintendo presentation, made it one of the most popular parts of the event.
Fans who have been waiting for news about Sora's next adventure were glad to hear that work is still being done on it. That wasn't all Square Enix did. The company also showed off Final Fantasy Resonance, a brand-new HD-2D role-playing game that combines old-school Final Fantasy features with more modern graphics.
The project got a lot of attention right away because it looked old and focused on classic RPG principles. There aren't many details yet, but the reveal hints that Square Enix is still looking for new ways to bring old ideas to modern audiences.
Several other well-known companies also joined the show. Capcom gave more information about Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, and Devil May Cry 5: Devil Hunter Edition was announced for the Nintendo Switch 2. Also shown up was Rise of the Tomb Raider, which brought another popular action-adventure series to Nintendo's newest hardware.
Stellar Blade was one of the more surprising news stories. The action game was only available on PlayStation and PC before, but it will now also be available on Nintendo Switch 2. Sources say that the move shows Nintendo's growing ability to get big third-party games that didn't seem likely to come to its systems before.

Fans got new information about Lords of the Fallen 2, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World, Atelier Resleriana, Ninjala 2, the Pokémon Pakopia Expansion Pass, RuneScape Dragonwilds, Dustbloods, SnowRunner, Ever Bloom, and a new One Piece game.
Nintendo also kept up its practice of releasing games out of the blue by putting out a Star Fox demo right after the presentation. Many of these announcements would have made news if they were made on their own. They worked together to make one of the busiest Nintendo Directs in recent memory.
One of the most apparent takeaways from the event is how much Nintendo's software has changed. Third-party support was very important during the showcase, with many publishers bringing big titles and simultaneous releases to Switch 2. This is a big change from earlier generations, when games often came to Nintendo systems months or even years after they came out elsewhere.
More support equals more games and experiences for owners of Switch 2 and a more competitive offering against other platforms.
Also, it means future Nintendo Directs could have a larger variety of games from different companies. The Nintendo Direct June 2026 left players with plenty to look forward to for the future with a slew of upcoming games. Some of the biggest game franchises like Zelda, Xenoblade, Kingdom Hearts, and Final Fantasy all made big reveals during the showcase.
Now that there are so many games coming out, the next task might not be finding something to play but choosing which adventure to focus on first.
