Nintendo added long-awaited GameCube material and some surprising Virtual Boy improvements to its Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack in another huge update. Nintendo added new emulation features and expanded its vintage games library in one of the service's busiest update cycles in recent months.

This GameCube update includes multiple Expansion Pack additions, unlike previous ones. While subscribers wait for the next round of base-tier Nintendo Switch Online games, the new release gives premium customers a better portfolio. The release says Super Mario Sunshine will join the Nintendo GameCube Nintendo Classics collection on August 13 for the Nintendo Switch 2.

Nintendo Expands Switch Online while Switch 2 19.86 Million Sales Record

This is the first digital release since the limited-time Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection ended.

On August 4, Nintendo will release two new Virtual Boy games and a screen customization option. Players can alter the display colors, addressing one of the biggest complaints about the original Virtual Boy, which relied on its red-and-black graphics. Dehopper and Zero Racers, an unreleased F-Zero racer, are new. After Nintendo's Virtual Boy failed commercially, G-Zero was canceled, keeping it unavailable to players for decades.

Nintendo intends to keep a large portion of the Virtual Boy library on Nintendo Switch Online. The service currently lacks many games, but many are licensed intellectual property, making future releases difficult. It's unclear if the entire inventory will be released. Lifelong Nintendo enthusiasts may find the update's previously canceled software most intriguing.

Nintendo is now letting gamers play games that never premiered, giving them a rare chance to try neglected ideas from the company's history. Virtual Boy experience, though? The company now allows users to change screen colors, but games still require a viewing attachment. Many fans believe these games may be readily adapted for television or mobile play, especially because Nintendo has shown them running on modern technology in promotional material.

Customizable colors show that Nintendo wants to modernize the experience without abandoning the original releases. New emulator updates hint that the corporation may release a TV or handheld version in the future. Like the Virtual Boy announcements, GameCube subscribers on Nintendo Switch Online are eagerly awaiting Super Mario Sunshine.

The GameCube platformer's grueling platforming, unique FLUDD gameplay, and tropical setting have won countless fans despite its divisive reputation.

It also expands Nintendo's GameCube library, especially for those who missed Super Mario 3D All-Stars' limited release window. The GameCube Nintendo Switch Online controller gives longtime fans the real deal.

Nintendo's GameCube roadmap is next. As numerous announced titles are now available, anticipation is growing for what will be released next. Popular games like Pokémon Colosseum are still absent, and Nintendo has not decided whether to disclose long-term release schedules or stick with surprise announcements as it did with Nintendo 64 releases.

The Expansion Pack update, which includes much-anticipated oldies, unreleased games, and emulator improvements, is one of Nintendo's best in recent months. Nintendo has more to celebrate than membership. New Japanese sales data shows another great performance for the company's latest software, led by Splatoon Raiders.

The latest physical sales data shows that the single-player Splatoon spin-off sold approximately 474,000 copies in Japan in its debut weekend. That number only includes tangible sales and shows the franchise's strength in Nintendo's native market. Another milestone was Mario Kart World selling over 3 million physical copies in Japan.

This number includes bundled software, download cards, and pre-installed versions that came with early Nintendo Switch 2 hardware, but not eShop transactions. Japanese sales of 1.5 million copies of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream were also significant. The three games demonstrate Nintendo's dominance in several genres in Japan.

Mario Kart World is already shaping up to be Nintendo Switch 2's flagship title, and now there's optimism that Nintendo will unveil a long-term downloadable content strategy.

The first major DLC expansion may include new tracks and iconic Mario Kart courses in 2027, according to industry chatter.

After Mario Kart 8 Deluxe offered over 90 playable tracks, players were excited for more. Long-term support for Mario Kart World would keep Switch 2 players motivated. Nintendo reached another hardware milestone. Despite being on sale for less than a year, the Nintendo Switch 2 has surpassed GameCube sales in the UK. Nintendo's latest console is selling quickly, although sales data were not disclosed.

The system is expected to surpass the Nintendo 64 in the UK, confirming its rapid commercial success. A startling milestone that shows how much Nintendo has evolved since the GameCube. The Switch family outperforms Nintendo's prior standalone systems due to its hybrid design. Nintendo is poised to continue its momentum with strong first-party game sales, Nintendo Switch Online support, and hardware smashing regional records for the Switch 2 generation.
