Steam Frame Release Date Rumors Heat Up Before Valve's 30th Anniversary

Valve’s 30th anniversary is happening on August 24, 2026, and the date has led to anticipation about a possible Steam Frame announcement. There is also the Half-Life 3 connection, with the 30th anniversary giving people another reason to speculate.

This could be the day later this month, and it would be a good time to announce the Steam Frame pricing and release date. As you know, the Steam Frame is locked and loaded, ready to go.

We have also seen the Steam Frame page on the Steam Store, while games are getting verified to work and receiving verified markings and ratings to tell you how well they run on the Steam Frame. 

It is now a matter of days before the announcement could happen. The timing also lines up with Valve's confirmed summer 2026 window, although that window is running out. There are several signals suggesting that the announcement could be coming soon.

As of August, FCC equipment authorization was completed in late July. There has also been significant hardware volume sitting in US warehouses. The growing Steam Frame verified game catalog and related Steam VR software updates are also part of the timeline.

We have seen people show off the new version of SteamOS, while summer ends in mid-to-late September. That leaves late August as a natural remaining window, and we agree that the timing makes sense. Tying a major hardware milestone, or at least pricing, pre-order details, and shipping information to the company anniversary would give Valve a marketing opportunity.

SteamOS 3.8.25 beta is also out now, and there is a lot buried in it. The update includes preliminary Steam Frame wireless adapter support and adds Steam Controller 2026 to HID Steam. The 2015 Steam Controller adapter can now wake the system. Joystick support has also been added for several handheld devices, including support for the Conquerfit and AYN Pocket S2, along with Linux 6.18.42.

We are also seeing some of the first official support for handheld devices that had not previously received this level of support. That is another part of the growing list of changes. More and more small updates are showing that Valve is getting closer to the Steam Frame release date.
