Insomniac’s rumored standalone title shelved following Tony Todd’s passing, raising questions about the studio’s future roadmap.

The gaming community has had a range of reactions, but most of them have been unhappy. Some fans agree that the project may have had problems with progress even before Todd's death, but others think this is a huge chance that was lost. A full-length Venom experience, especially one that built on the mechanics presented in Spider-Man 2, had gotten a lot of people very excited.

However, industry observers believe game development is rarely simple. When large studios handle multiple high-profile projects, delays, internal issues, and shifting agendas are common. Insomniac reportedly changed its plans for downloadable content and game release dates.

A good idea that was lost too soon.

It's especially sad that the game was canceled because it was going in a new creative way with Venom. Instead of following the usual Spider-Man formula, a Venom game could have had more mature, violent gameplay, more akin to darker action games. Many fans saw it as a natural progression and an opportunity for Insomniac to try new things, different from what they were used to.

One of the best parts of Spider-Man 2 is now seen as the short Venom task, which also makes people think of what could have been. As a base that could have been built upon to make a full game, it showed what a stand-alone experience could be like. Now that I look back on it, that moment seems less like a tease and more like a last look.

There's also the bigger question of what this means for Insomniac's future plans.

The timetable was reportedly jam-packed with movies and television shows, including Wolverine, Spider-Man 3, and even projects set in the X-Men universe, according to past leaks and reports. Since Venom doesn't seem to be involved anymore, that plan may look very different now.

For some fans, the loss is a little less painful because they think that other popular franchises will get more attention. Games like Ratchet & Clank are still very popular, and people can't wait for them to come back. A lot of people say this shouldn't happen at the expense of big, new ideas, like making a Venom game.

The cancellation was a major letdown, even given the industry's unpredictability. This isn't just another project on hold; it has artistic potential, audience enthusiasm, and the emotional weight of Tony Todd's death. We've lost what could have been one of the most unique character games in the last few years.
