Watch Dogs 3 Could Save Ubisoft from Blunder
A new Watch Dogs game and a movie could be a success for Ubisoft.

The failure of two high-budget games, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Skull and Bones, has put Ubisoft in a very bad situation since early this year, and the current situation with Assassin's Creed Shadows and the failure of Star Wars Outlaws have frustrated their investors. After reaching a high of €15, Ubosoft's stock price has dropped to €11. Compared to other gaming companies like EA, which has grown 48%, and Take-Two, which has grown 21%, this is the lowest since 2014, with an 83% decline over the past five years.
Star Wars Outlaws' sales in its first few weeks were rather bad. The data from the PlayStation Store show that it only managed to reach number five in the USA, where more major sports games and GTA 5 naturally sold more copies. Across all platforms, we know that GTA 5 still sells roughly 1.5 million copies monthly, which indicates that the sales figures for Star Wars Outlaws were below that threshold. However, Star Wars Jedi Survivor debuted last year and remained the PlayStation Store's top game for a long period. A game with the budget of Star Wars Outlaws should do considerably better.
It will be a major problem for Ubisoft if things still haven't turned around by next year or early 2026, but we'll have to wait and see if their situation changes. However, Ubisoft owns some IPs that could salvage the situation. There needs to be a shift there as well, and they should probably get things in order before they're completely out of their hands and concentrate on their next game, Assassin's Creed Shadows. Since there is still a sizable fanbase, the developer can shift their attention to games like Far Cry and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon, where they have a good chance of success.
Also, a new Watch Dogs game and a movie could be a success for Ubisoft. Reportedly, Sophie Wilde of Talk to Me and Tom Bluff, who acted in The Hunger Games, will be in a new Watch Dogs movie. While Ubisoft has not officially confirmed it, there are rumors that they are working on a Watch Dogs game. If this game is any indication, Ubisoft could be back to normal with a successful Watch Dogs franchise. The game has a huge fan base, even though fans weren't happy with Watch Dogs: Legion. Perhaps Ubisoft should take a different approach with a more linear narrative-driven game, which is still an open world, more like GTA V.
