Spawn Locations

You can find the Magna Gecko on the following maps: The Island, Scorched Earth, Dissenter, Aberration, and Extinction. It typically inhabits dunes, beaches, grasslands, jungles, and canyons.

The Magna Gecko is not rare and can be spotted quite easily across these areas. For those who prefer not to search, spawn commands are available, allowing you to summon the Magna Gecko at your desired level.

This creature is a modded addition, currently featured on the ARK Apocalypse servers.

Taming Process

Taming the Magna Gecko is straightforward. It is a passive tame, but you must first prepare Mashed Bugs. These can be crafted in the Mortar and Pestle with minimal resources.

Once you have Mashed Bugs, place them in the zero slot of your hot bar. Approach the Magna Gecko and feed it the Meshed Bugs to tame it. After taming, the Magna Gecko will eat berries.

Abilities

The Magna Gecko is an important early-game tame because it gives you useful abilities. Getting other creatures to behave can be easier with its tail, which can be used to trick them into traps.

While sprinting, you can drop the tail by pressing X, which can distract predators such as Raptors. If the Magna Gecko is injured, it will automatically drop its tail and flee. The wound will scar over in ten minutes, and the tail will regrow.

You can also manually remove the tail using a Hatchet, and it will regrow every ten minutes, providing a renewable resource for trapping and taming.

Additionally, the Magna Gecko can carry artifacts in its inventory, making it especially useful during artifact runs. Compared to the Otter, the Magna Gecko can be easier to find and may be preferable for artifact transport.

Roles

The primary role of the Magna Gecko is to assist with taming by using its tail to lure carnivores into traps. When constructing a taming trap, stand inside with the Magna Gecko and discard its tail to attract your target.

You can also store tails in a fridge and use them later to create a trail for taming other creatures.

Stats

The Magna Gecko has modest base stats: 70 health, 200 stamina, and 200 weight. These numbers are suitable for an early-game companion that will mostly remain at your base. Investing in health and weight is recommended for the initial hours of gameplay.

Is the Magna Gecko Any Good?

The design of the Magna Gecko is visually appealing and thoughtfully crafted.

For PvE players who enjoy collecting and breeding, starting a Magna Gecko line is highly recommended.

In PvP, the Magna Gecko serves more as a novelty or base decoration rather than a strategic asset. For those who appreciate geckos, it is a delightful addition to your collection.
