Here's a guide on how to beat tormented grigoire in Diablo IV Lord of Hatred

Positioning to defeat the Galvanic Saint in Tormented Echo can be challenging and requires a high level of environmental awareness. The Tormented Grigoire encounter is a major milestone in the endgame of Diablo 4 that's specifically meant to punish those who are playing entirely passively.

The Reality of the Echo of Grigoire

It turns the whole nature of the fight from your typical dungeon-clearing to a high-stakes mechanical conflict where one player has to master spatial control. This is based on the Tormented vulnerability system, whose core mechanics determine the strategy of this fight. Whenever your character takes damage from one of Grigoire's main telegraphed lightning skills, he will take an enduring debuff. You will get an enduring stacking debuff every time you take damage from one of Grigoire's primary telegraphed lightning skills.

This modifier will significantly boost the damage you take from any source in the arena. If you let these stacks get too high, even with weak ambient electricity, sparks will instantly wipe out your health bar.

Therefore, you'll have to be really mobile and safe when it comes to positioning yourselves to beat the Galvanic Saint. You can't stand idle and try to take his jabs. Rather, you need to come up with a build that emphasizes evading his powerful mace attacks and navigating a constantly changing battlefield of electrical hazards, while capitalizing on brief moments of vulnerability to deal damage.

How to prepare your character and loadout.

To be able to plunge into the Halls of the Penitent in the Dry Steppes, you need to carefully craft your defensive abilities to match his elemental arsenal. The stacking debuff system is a natural occurrence with physical armor caps, which means that elemental thresholds are the main things to focus on.

Grigoire's main attacks are massive Lightning and Physical damage attacks. The very last thing you want is to have your lightning level fluctuate above its maximum limit of seventy percent. When you slot in perfect topazes and couple them with a powerful elixir of lightning protection, you'll have the lifesaving buffer to deal with a random encounter with his electrical currents.

When you're trying to avoid his arena-wide hazard zones, your most important asset is mobility. Your boots and amulet should have high movement speed affixes; otherwise, your character may find himself stuck in those rapid changes.

Also, a key priority will be the skills that grant the Unstoppable status buff. Grigoire's knockback is very strong, and can send characters flying across the room, so the ability to break away from crowd control is highly useful for keeping characters in position. Each gear affix and Paragon node has to be thoughtfully included so that you are able to deal a ton of damage to a single target, but still have the agility to be able to run around as much as you can.

Guiding the Shocking Entry and Spark Strikes

As you call the Galvanic Saint, there is an instant challenge to your reflexes and initial setup. As soon as you set the necessary materials on the altar, the whole arena floor is filled with volatile energy. An electrical shockwave pattern is activated, starting from the circumference of the room and going towards the center.

You need to be in the center of the room with your feet spread wide, waiting for the last possible second before you use your evade to sprint outwards as Grigoire comes sailing down into the arena. As soon as you come into view, the boss will start attacking you at melee range with his large mace.

His usual 'Spark Strike' attack is a broad, sweeping motion, with erratic, floating sparks streaking the floor. To pass this mechanic without being teleported, attack his character model from behind.

The sparks are launched outwards, but in a forward-facing arc; thus, you can only be hit if you are facing his back or flank. The empowered version of this mace swing works much the same, but with a much broader radius and with a strong knockback. It's important to remain attentive to his turn animation and to continually be circling the boss so that you never get directly in front of the boss when his weapon lands.

Navigating the Shocking Entry and Spark Strikes

Throughout the match, Grigoire will regularly be using his power Attack skill named "Thunderous Blow" to mess up your attacking timing. The boss will hold his weapon up before violently striking it on the ground, creating bright red telegraphed circles on the ring.

These are markers showing the locations of large lightning bolts in the sky after a brief time-lapse. As soon as you see those warning signs coming from beneath you, get out of the perimeter area, as a direct hit will cause a great amount of damage and provide an instant Tormented debuff stack.

As you're busy jumping around to avoid them falling on you, Grigoire will occasionally send reinforcements down to crush your playable space. Packs of Knights Penitent will appear in a tight group directly next to you, trying to close in on you and limit your actions.

You're going to have to focus away from the boss and utilize your high area-of-effect to break down these minions before they can get a good trap on you. These things can remain hazards and leave you physically unable to walk away from a lightning strike or avoid a hazard on the ground.

Charged Pylons and Knockback Hazards: survival strategies.

As health declines beyond the 80% mark, the environmental dangers of the arena increase considerably. The thick, continuous laser beams of electricity are drawn between the massive metallic pylons set around the perimeter of the room, which are now completely charged.

These interconnected beams, over time, cause massive damage when crossed and rapidly pile up fatal Vulnerability stacks. The real threat in this stage is the mind-blowing combo of these active pylons and Grigoire's body-to-body strikes.

If you do not stand away from the sides of the room and miss dodging an Empowered Spark Strike, you will be sent flying into an electric fence line by his massive mace attack. This is why you need to deliberately place yourself in the middle of the area.

In the middle of the room, keep the fighting circle close to keep the most options available to you in moving around the boss without hitting a beam by accident. Moreover, you'll need to store your Unstoppable skills exclusively to counter the knockback from his swings when you manage to go off-balance, as you will want to neutralize the knockback entirely.

Learn the Galvanic Ascendance Floor Maze!

After dropping his health to sixty percent, Grigoire will briefly disappear from the fight to trigger his ultimate ability, called Galvanic Ascendance. The boss disappears from your line of sight, and you're left to decipher a complex, high-voltage environmental puzzle.

The entire surface of the arena is transformed into an unobstructed grid made up of nine large square tiles. Within a short period of time, these seven will become extremely hot with violently increasing electrical currents, and only two tiles will remain complete safe zones. The tiles illuminate in a unique, one-after-another pattern and then explode with deadly force.

Absolute calm and quick pattern recognition is key to the survival of this ultimate phase. It is important not to run around the room in panic. Rather, get close to the grid's cross points and look carefully at the floor to find the unlit tiles that are safe.

Once you find a safe zone, use your mobility skills or careful movement to get into it without the rest of the grid exploding! In this phase, it takes a significant amount to drain your health pool if you stand on a charged tile, and it will slow you down as well if you're already on top of debuffs.

Final execution & securing the spoils

The final health bar segment of Grigoire is the ultimate culmination of all the other mechanics that are happening at the same time in the fight. The perimeter pylons are still up and running, floor tiles will intermittently flash with electricity, Knight swarms will still spawn, and the boss will be a bit crazier, rapidly chaining his mace slams and spark strikes.

The final cut is a mechanical process and requires careful, precise micro-movements. Must overcome the instinct to panic or be greedy and stand still and break the last bit of damage. Instead, he goes all out with a clean loop of movement, a 90% success rate of making the minor adds, and being hit on the back while in recovery from the attack.

Your crowd control abilities are the most important to use to fill his stun meter, as doing so will completely disable all active hazards that he has and give you a large window to take full advantage of your most powerful abilities. If you are cool-headed and you just concentrate on executing your shots, you will get him down little by little until he is dead.

Upon the final defeat of the Galvanic Saint, the electrical storm will vanish altogether, and you'll receive endgame riches from the arena altar. Defeating Tormented Grigoire grants you a fountain of high-tier legendary gear, popular Shards of Agony needed to summon the Echo of Duriel, and most importantly, you get the opportunity to claim coveted Mythic Unique items to truly perfect your ultimate character build.
