To succeed in the world of Divinity: Original Sin 2, you need to understand how your choices in battle change your power. These skills help you during fights in many different ways. You can choose to focus on how you use your gear or how you use your magic. This guide explains how each part works so you can build a person who survives.

Combat Magic and Skills

If you want to do more physical damage, you should focus on Warfare. For those who like to fight from a distance, Huntsman makes you hit harder when you stand on high ground. If you use magic, Aerotheurge helps you break through Magic Armour faster, while Pyrokinetic makes your fire do more.

Geomancer helps with poison and earth power and also lets you fix your Physical Armour. To fix your health or do water damage, you look to Hydrosophist. If you want to take life from your foes, Necromancer lets you heal your Vitality based on the harm you cause. Scoundrel is for those who want to move fast and hit with bigger critical strikes.

For people who want to bring help, Summoning gives your Summons and Totems more health and protection. If you just want to grow stronger, Polymorph gives you an extra point for your stats every time you put a point into it.

Defensive Tactics

Protection is just as important as hitting. Retribution makes your attacker feel the pain they give to you. If you want to help your friends, Leadership gives people near you a better chance to dodge and resist. To get back on your feet, Perseverance is key. It fixes your Magic Armour after you are Frozen or Stunned and brings back your Physical Armour after you are Petrified or Knocked Down.

Mastery of Weapons

How you hold your tools changes your stats. Two-Handed play makes your big weapons hit with a larger multiplier. If you use a bow or a Crossbow, Ranged helps you do more damage and find more critical hits. People who use a shield or just one blade use Single-Handed to get better Accuracy. If you choose to hold a weapon in each hand, Dual Wielding raises your damage and helps you with Dodging.
