A guide on how to unlock the Advanced Swordmaster Trainer in Dune: Awakening.
Game Guide by Groot on Jun 23, 2025
Once you've mastered the basic Swordmaster techniques, the path to advanced mastery beckons with greater challenges and more sophisticated combat abilities.
If you choose the advanced Swordmaster questline, you'll go deeper into Arrakis's dangerous and politically charged areas and work directly with Seron Varlin, an experienced fighter who has had his own problems in the past. You will be able to use all of the Swordmaster skill tree's powerful final powers after this advanced training.
Get ready for a journey that takes you to several dangerous places and requires you to be good at fighting and thinking strategically.

Finding the Advanced Swordmaster Trainer
After you unlock the basics, it's time to find the advanced swordmaster trainer, Seron Varlin. Seron is located in Harko Village, sitting by a small campfire on the northwest side of town. To get there, you'll have two options.
First, if you have a copter, you can fly there for free, which is the most efficient way. Otherwise, you'll have to pay 2,500 Solari for transport from a trade post. I highly recommend waiting until you have a copter to save time. Traveling on foot will make these quests take significantly longer.

A Tormented Soul
Speak with Seron to start "A Tormented Soul" quest. He'll ask you to gather information about his lost blade from the bar nearby. Inside the bar, you'll find a contract that directs you to speak with Elron, who is very close by in the back room, which she'll point you to.
The Sandflies are the group that hired her. You'll need to return to Seron after this, and he's going to send you to your next mission, which is to retrieve his hilt from the western comm sandfly base on the west side of the East Shield Wall.

I highly recommend when you're flying into Hagga Basin that, you enter from the north side, slightly angled towards the left part of it, so that you can get a direct route to it.
Once you're in Hagga Basin, make your way here, and within the comp station, you're just going to fight your way through until you make it all the way to the top, and you'll find someone named the Harpy, which is the sandfly boss that you'll need to take down.
After you defeat her, loot the sword hilt from her body and once again begin your flight back to Seron in the Harko Village. Once you complete this mission, this will unlock up to two points that you can invest into all the swordmaster skills except for the capstone.
Piercing Eyes
Seron will send you back to the bar to meet a black market trader named Anoshka. To prove you're in the know, you need to order a Karuna brandy with a citrate twist.

After you tell her the secret code phrase, she's going to send you to a Tellaxi trader at Pentacle Station, who will assign you to the lab cleanup quest.
From here, you'll need to head north to Testing Station Number 17, just north of the Pentacle Station, and eliminate three hostile human-like experiments.

They will attack you at melee, so be ready for close combat. Generally speaking, you should run into these guys about the moment you jump in, so it should be a fairly quick quest.
After that, you just need to make your way from there back to the trader and finish up the quest. From then on, you will get a prosthetic eye.
And once again, make your trip back to the Harko Village and present it to Seron. With that, this unlocks the ability to allocate three skill points into the swordmaster tree, of course, not counting the capstone skills.
Art of the Sword
For your next quest, this one's going to be fairly easy. You're going to just need to once again talk to Seron to begin this quest chain. This quest is simple.
As mentioned earlier, you just need to use three different swordmaster skills three times each. You don't need enemies around. You don't need to do anything. You can simply go to Hagga Basin, which I highly recommend, by flying into the south and starting to practice the skills.

Once you use the skills, return to Seron, and you'll unlock your first capstone skill, Perfect Parry, and gain access to four skill points.
Forged in Dishonor
After completing that very simple quest, you can go to your fifth quest, which, once again, you need to speak to Seron for. This one will be called "Forged in Dishonor." Essentially, your next task is to craft a special blade to show your dedication.
From here, you will need to find swordmaster Duncan Idaho at Helias Gate from Harko Village all the way back to the north, slightly angled towards the right part of the north entrance. The Helias Gate is going to be at the Eastern Shield Wall. He is positioned up a ladder in the back of the town on the top floor.
Duncan will give you a Damma steel schematic to learn. Once you learn it, you will just make your way back to your base or your crafting location, wherever it is, and you will need to craft this.

Keep in mind that it does require a large blood sack, and this is going to require nothing rarer than an aluminum ingot. It's a fairly pricey option if you're trying to do this initially, but it should be fairly easy to make. Once you craft this blade, make your trip back to Harko Village.
And just like that, you're done with this quest. Once again, a pretty straightforward quest, nothing too long, and this will give you the ability to allocate the Thrive on Danger skill, and it will give you five skill points once again to allocate.
The Last Stand of Seron Varlin
Finally, on the final quest, you're going to need to do "The Last Stand of Seron Varlin." The final quest will send you back to the bar once again with a letter for the Farling Associates requesting a duel.

Now, keep in mind that after I delivered the letter, I went back to Seron and told him not to do the duel, and it just kind of completed the quest. He gave me the Jolt sword, and I was able to complete the complete swordmaster advanced quest line.
Again, if you want to try the other option, you can do that, but I have no idea what it will give you. After you complete the advanced quest line, though, you will unlock the Persistent Strike skill, and this is going to make it so that you can pretty much unlock everything you want in the entire skill tree as long as you have the skill points.
