EA Crowned as Top Publisher of 2010

Electronic Arts (EA) was named the leading games publisher for the second year in a row. EA took the biggest share of the UK games market in 2010 in terms of revenue generated from games and units sold, with the likes of FIFA and Battlefield in the Top 10.
Data from GfK Chart-Track revealed that Activision Blizzard and Nintendo took the second and third biggest share of the market in terms of value.
Ubisoft shot up the rankings; thanks to big sales of Just Dance and Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood while Take-Two’s status rose on the back of Red Dead: Redemption and BioShock 2.
2010 was also a bumper year for Xbox 360. Microsoft saw its share of the software market spike in units and value to make it the undisputed No.1 console in terms of game sales. Meanwhile, Sony enjoyed significant growth for PS3. The machine has overtaken Nintendo’s platforms to become the No.2 console.
It wasn't a great year for Nintendo with Wii and DS’s software market share lower in 2010 as compared to the previous year. Retail generated well over £472m in revenue from Wii and DS games in 2010 but that is big dip over the numbers posted in 2009. PSP’s share of the market is also down over 2009.
