Echoes of the Living Beginner’s Guide | Gameplay Tips & Tricks

Simple early-game tips to survive longer, save resources, and avoid common mistakes.

At first, Echoes of the Living can feel very hard. It's hard to move, angles can hide threats, and supplies run out quickly. When survival becomes a habit, the early hours get easier.

Good positioning, smart looting, and careful choices about what to keep in your inventory help you make steady progress. Use the sections below to get into good habits before things get hard.

Learn how to use the camera and move around.

Rooms with fixed angles can be hard to see and feel safe in. Take your time when entering new areas and let the camera settle before choosing a path.

Corners are where people usually get caught, so hugging walls and checking doorways can help. When a threat shows up, quick turns and short moves keep you in control. Backing out and changing the angle is often safer than forcing a fight when a room feels unsafe.

Choose your fights carefully and save your ammo.

The ammo goes away faster than you think. You don't have to clear every enemy, especially in places you only go through once. When you can, use spacing and route control to get past threats.

If you have to fight, go all out and end it quickly to avoid wasting shots. Keep handgun ammo for targets that block narrow paths or guard important doors. It usually isn't worth the money to buy something that can be looped around.

Inventory Discipline Wins Games

Inventory pressure is the main cause of most early deaths. So, only bring what you need to get to the next step. As soon as you can, put everything else in a Storage Box. Leave at least one space empty in case you find Key Items or puzzle parts that you didn't expect.

It's important to make small planning decisions, like bringing one healing item instead of a bunch of "just in case" items. If you have to go back on a route, put heavy tools away first so you don't have to throw them away on the way back.

Healing and saving without losing progress

You shouldn't spam healing; you should time it. If the next area is calm, it's okay to take a little damage and keep going. But going into rooms you don't know about when you're low on health is dangerous. Have one emergency item, like a first aid kit, on hand in case of sudden danger.

Saving is another option for resources. Before trying a dangerous path, a big puzzle chain, or a long loop that could cost you supplies, make sure to save. The goal is to keep progress safe without having to save after every small step.

Quick Mistakes That Make Everything Take Longer

Going too quickly into new rooms can cause damage. Having a full inventory means you have to drop things and miss puzzle pieces. If you spend too much on ammo early on, later fights will feel unfair.

Think of each area as a short mission. Enter, scan, take what you need, and leave with a clean inventory plan. When every pickup has a purpose, things go smoothly.
