F1 2009: First Look
by Fishdalf on Apr 26, 2009
Codemasters has announced they will be releasing F1 2009 this year for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and PSP; the latter two platforms are debutants to the series. The Wii version however will be handled by Sumo Digital, who is probably most famous for their work on SEGA Superstars Tennis. Codemasters feel that their efforts should be focused primarily on the PS3 and 360 versions, which will apparently be more ‘sophisticated’ than their Nintendo counterpart.
The games will all feature full car and team rosters, which means it’s now possible to step into the shoes of current Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton for the first time, although judging by the performance of McLaren this season you will find it difficult to lead the pack. You’re much more likely to now see Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello romping away to victory in their newly inspired Brawn GP cars.
The game will feature every single track from the current season, including the daunting Singapore night race, the beautiful Valencia Marina Bay, and the season finale in the brand new Abu Dhabi circuit, which hasn’t even been fully built yet.
The game will be powered by the EGO Engine that brought the GRID racing game critical acclaim, so there’s plenty to look forward to for long-standing fans of both the series and the sport.
F1 2009 will be out in October. Stay tuned for future updates.
