What Decides Your Ending

The last chapter, called Crimson Butterfly, is where your story path is set. Most of the gameplay happens inside Kurosawa House, the Deep Path Tunnel, and the Abyss. Three things change the result of your game.

These are the difficulty level you pick, the Spirit Stone charm you wear before you enter the Ritual Altar room, and the side stories you finish in New Game+.

You have to get the Crimson Butterfly ending on a normal game first to unlock New Game+. Every other ending except Lonely Road Home needs you to be in New Game+.

Lonely Road Home Ending

This is a state that ends your game, but it still gives you an achievement. It is a good idea to do this early before you try for a full run. First, solve the Pinwheel Puzzle at the Old Tree. Watch the secret door open at Kureha Shrine and then bring Mayu there.

After Mayu is taken away, you must fight and defeat the three Wraiths outside the shrine. Once they are gone, go back inside the shrine and walk through the secret door by yourself. Leaving Mayu behind triggers this ending in FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE.

Important Warning

Doing this results in a game over. You should load your save file as soon as the achievement for the Lonely Road Home ending appears.

This way, you will not lose any progress toward the other endings in the game. You will earn the achievement called Reached the Ending "Lonely Road Home" once you finish these steps.
