If you want to see the most tragic finale for the sisters, you have to follow a specific path in New Game+. This version of the story leads to a unique confrontation at the very end of the game.

Getting Ready for the Ritual

First, you must have seen the Crimson Butterfly ending. You also need to finish the extra mission for The Kusabi during your second playthrough.

These tasks earn you the Kusabi Sparkling Spirit Stone. Make sure you have this Spirit Stone equipped before you step into the Ritual Altar room. If you see Mayu weeping and then hear Sae start to laugh, you know you have triggered the right path.

Beating The Kusabi Again

The fight with The Kusabi is harder this time because it happens in two waves. Once you empty his health bar, he stands back up in a rage.

He will throw many more skulls at you than before. He can also pull a trick where the room goes pitch black. Keep an eye on your camera sensor to track where he is hiding. Snap a photo of him to break the spell and bring back the light in FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE.

The Final Showdown with Sae

After that, you will head into The Abyss to find Mayu and Sae. Start the battle by getting a quick photo of Mayu before she can react. Once you damage her enough, a Fatal Frame window opens and she shifts into Sae.

Sae uses blood to attack. She will throw it to mess up your vision or leave puddles on the ground that hurt you. She also summons three blood tornadoes.

You have to find the right one by following the red arrow on your camera screen. If you hit the one where she is hiding, she will pop out. Don't hit the others, or they will explode and take away your health in FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE.

The Result of the Fall

When you win, Sae drops down into the darkness. Mio reaches out and catches Mayu just in time, but she ends up looking straight into the pit. The things Mio sees down there are so terrible that she loses her sight forever.
