The first real step in shaping your squad in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is Getting Certified for Beginner Classes. These are the basic combat archetypes that you advance from before qualifying for specialized intermediate and advanced ranks later in the campaign.
Getting certified does not require heavy grinding, but your character must reach Level 5, attain Renown Rank 1, and expend a Beginner’s License at the exam proctor in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave.
Gladiator
The Gladiator is your frontline brawler, built around heavy physical power and close-quarters weapon mastery. For certification, it recommends secondary ranks of D in Gauntlets, D in Axes, and D in Swords.

Taking this class boosts growth rates by HP +10% and Str +10%, with no innate class abilities. It gives a +1 skill EXP bonus to Swords, Axes, and Gauntlets and if you master the class you will get the Attack Basics skill which gives you Str +1 permanently.
Hunter
The Hunter focuses on agility, critical accuracy, and ranged physical pressure. Its certification recommendations include secondary ranks of D in Bows and D in Swords in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave.
This path boosts growth rates by HP +10%, Spd +10%, and Dex +10%, without granting any class abilities. It awards a +1 skill EXP bonus toward Swords, Bows, and Infantry, while mastering the class unlocks Hunting Basics to grant Dex +1 and Spd +1.
Soldier
The Soldier serves as an early defensive anchor designed to hold choke points and absorb incoming physical blows. To certify easily, work toward secondary ranks of D in Axes and D in Spears. Its stat growths favor bulk, giving HP +10%, Str +5%, Def +10%, and Dex +5%, balanced by a small penalty of Spd -5%.
It has no innate class abilities, grants a +1 skill EXP bonus to Spears, Axes, and Armored, and yields the Defense Basics master ability to grant Def +1 in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave.
Ornius Rider
The Ornius Rider introduces early mounted mobility using large terrestrial bird mounts native to Dagdan. Its certification requires a primary rank of E+ in Riding alongside secondary ranks of D in Axes and D in Spears.
Stat growth modifications include HP +10%, Spd +10%, Res +5%, and Lck +5%. This unit comes with the innate Mount/Dismount action, grants a +1 skill EXP bonus to Spears, Riding, and Flying, and provides the Offense Basics master ability to grant Str +1 and Mag +1.
Diviner
The Diviner is the foundational spellcasting class in the game, preparing characters for offensive dark arts or restorative white magic. Certification recommends secondary ranks of D in White Magic and D in Black Magic in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave.
Because it is a pure caster archetype, stat growths drop physical stats by Str -5% and Def -5% while bolstering spellcasting through Mag +15%, Res +10%, HP +5%, and Dex +5%.
It carries no class abilities, awards a +1 skill EXP bonus to both White Magic and Black Magic, and unlocks the Magic Basics master ability to grant Mag +1 and Res +1.
