Friends

I don't know if there's a TV series better than that and I'm pretty serious about it. When the first episode was aired back in 1994, not even their creators could imagine the impact that Friends would have.

Originally developed by Crane and Kauffman, the project of the series name was Insomnia Cafe. The whole show lasted 10 years and make no mistake, it had the power to last even much more. The finale, which was first aired on May 6, 2004, was watched by 52.5 million American viewers, making it the fourth most-watched series finale in television history.

Who doesn't recognize the 6 figures above ? Joey, Phoebe, Ross, Chander, Monica and Rachel were the main characters of Friends. I don't wanna brag as usually everyone does when makes a Friends blog or reference, but I'd like to put my personal experience on it.

When it aired back in September 1994, I was in the last class of high school, having to take the Panhellenic Exams on May 1995, so it was the most difficult and hardest season of my life. Comedy and mostly a good laugh was what I mostly needed, in order to get away from every day study and lessons stress. So Friends kept me a very good company during that era.

I couldn't follow the series since I was in the academy in 1996 and half 1997, so I missed half of season 2 and half of season 3. Still I was able to keep up with the storyline since reruns where aired here and there.

The general idea is that I practically grew up with them. And it wans't just growing up. They were growing old and I was growing old, the series itself got mature as I did as well. It was like having a second life with them. I remember myself stopping everything when I had to watch Friends (and trust me, it wasn't just me).

Wanna talk life language ? Every character represents a part of the community and a huge part of the population was "mirrored" in those 6 persons. I can write for hours, but I leave it to the next generations, or yourselfs (in case you haven't watched the series).

Last but not least. I'll stop watching them WHEN and IF there's gonna be a better comedy series than that. Till then, I'll never give up watching it again and again and again, especially in my "dark" days.
