Games != Divinity

Religion by RON on  Sep 22, 2009

I’m not a religious person. Not by any means. I don’t pray. I don’t confess. I don’t have any sign a religious person can have. Yes, I’m not a religious person at all.

I was playing Knights of Honor few days back. It’s an old strategy game. While I was building my kingdom, I needed marbles. My territory didn’t have this resource. So, I decided to go for trade. The only province in the entire man producing marbles; was from a different religion background. Its empire was constantly refusing my offer. The only option I had was to invade and take what I needed. His war power was weaker than mine anyway. I got really pissed when he was constantly refusing my offer, so I sent a big army across the sea and invaded his province. I captured the King alive and imprisoned his children. I set up a camp there and started to take my precious marbles to support the construction. That didn’t conclude my pissness though. I hired a Pope and converted their religion. After few game years of spiritual torture, the city breaks down. Many wars with rebels were fought in the mean time. But I keep punishing them. And afterward; I leave my attention to somewhere else of the map.

After few hours of gameplay, when my Kingdom is fully established and obviously flourishing with happiness and riches; I notice that province I captured. Everything was burning and damaged without care and people were dying. I decided to release them from the agony and let their empire live free and while removing my camp from there, I donate them a large amount of gold to recover from the loss.

Last two paragraphs don’t have anything to do with religion. It was just a devout matter that altered all those consequences. The actual meaning of divinity is absolutely absent from games. Any game you can think of. Some games teach us patriotism, some improves brain functions but none gives us any idea about the mysticism which we all are somehow enforced to follow.

It’ll be foolish to ask for such game. How can a group of men create a game with ideas that can only be defined by the One?
