Days Gone
Release Date: April 26, 2019

At long last Days Gone is seeing release after it was first announced back in 2016. You play Deacon St. John, a bounty hunter and former outlaw, as he struggles to survive in the wilds of the American Pacific Northwest following the worldwide pandemic that brought the downfall of society.

It’s an interesting premise made even more exciting by the Freakosystem, the living and breathing ecosystem of the world of Days Gone. Freakers and wildlife alike eat, rest, and drink just like you, bringing a dynamism and freshness to the environment that sets the title apart from standard survival horror fare.

Dreams (Early Access)
Release Date: April 17, 2019 (Early Access)

Dreams is the latest title by Media Molecule, the masterminds behind LittleBigPlanet, set in a massive universe of interconnected dreams. Dreams is a creative playground where players are given the tools to shape their own “dreams”, personal creations that can range from short films, musical scores, or entire worlds. Spend hours carefully crafting your masterpiece or get lost in the dreams of other players. The title is in early access now – players are already sharing some of their creations – so jump in and get to dreaming.

Mortal Kombat 11
Release Date: April 23, 2019

The goddess Kronika, the Keeper of Time, has decided that the universe has become far too chaotic and takes it upon herself to return order to the dimension. Her solution involves lots of time travel, setting the stage for the return of several fan favorites from previous installments.

Time travel’s all well and good but we all know the main draw of Mortal Kombat has always been its extreme gore. Long-time fans can rest assured that the series brings it in spades, with a slew of new Fatalities and finishers that are bloodier and more violent than ever before.

Fade to Silence
Release Date: April 30, 2019

Described as a combination of Dark Souls and Monster Hunter with the heavy, dread-filled atmosphere of Metro, Fade to Silence puts the player in the role of Ash, a solitary survivor roaming the frozen wastelands of a post-apocalyptic world. Fight for your life in a massive unforgiving world full of grotesque horrors, scavenging the materials and resources you need to stay alive and upgrade your equipment to fend off the corrupt monsters that haunt your every step. It’s man-versus-nature-versus-Lovecraftian-horror, with the environment posing just as much a threat to your well-being as the game’s numerous beasts. And if you’re unwilling to brave the icy tundra alone, the game also supports Co-op, so you can bring a friend along.

Our World is Ended
Release Date: April 18, 2019

Our World is Ended is a visual novel that plays on the classic VR-meets-Reality trope of contemporary science fiction, a staple of anime and manga like .hack//.

Judgment 7 is a team of young developers building an Augmented Reality game engine that merges the lines between reality and fiction. When they lose control of their engine and it begins to literally transform the world around them, the team must do whatever it takes to stop it from overwriting their world.

With its lovable cast, gripping story, amazing art, and catchy soundtrack, Our World is Ended is a worthy addition to any Visual Novel fan’s library.

Jupiter & Mars
Release Date: April 22, 2019

This Playstation VR title’s art style is colorful, unique, and engrossing; the player sees their surroundings in bright neon outlines and minimalistic shapes, a visual representation of dolphin Echolocation. As Jupiter, you and your AI-powered companion Mars must shut down the machines left behind by the civilizations of man in a future-Earth submerged in water.

A joint project between Sony, SeaLegacy, and Ocean Foundation, this game looks to be a strange journey set in a captivating virtual reality world.

Ghost Giant
Release Date: April 16, 2019

Ghost Giant is a puzzle adventure for the Playstation VR headset. You play as titular Ghost Giant, a friendly creature that befriends a young, lonely boy. Invisible to all but Louis, you use your immense size to help him and the people of the town of Sancourt.

Essentially putting you in the big boots of a large benevolent creature – think Totoro or Iron Giant – the game takes full advantage of the VR headset, allowing you to explore Sancourt, a cozy, papier-mâché town that almost looks like it was constructed with scissors and glue.

Fell Seal: Arbiter’s Mark
Release Date: April 30, 2019

There has been a full-on drought of quality narrative-driven tactical titles of late, with the most notable games being re-releases of old Disgaea installments or sub-par clones of the PS-era classics. Fell Seal: Arbiter’s Mark looks to be a worthy successor to the great tactical RPGs of old. It wears its inspirations on its sleeve, drawing inspiration from Final Fantasy Tactics and Disgaea to construct a fantasy, steampunk universe full of magic and wonder.

This ode to the golden age of console tactical RPGs offers an incredibly deep progression system with 30 playable classes and a plethora of different story missions. The original PC release also offers extensive mod support, fingers crossed that will also make its way to the PS4 version as well.

April is full of amazing PS4 titles from a wide range of genres. From survival horror to visual novel to tactical RPG, you’re guaranteed to find a title that tickles your fancy. Did we miss any big titles or was there an interesting indie game that we overlooked? What PS4 April releases are you most looking forward to? If you’re planning to start your 2019 with quality PlayStation gaming experience, keep an eye on PSN promotions!
