So many incredible games released this year. Choosing a Game of the Year for 2019 has been difficult and that's a good thing. With so many to choose from making a choice on just 1 is going to be challenging. Here's NoobFeed's Game of the Year for 2019.
Nominees
It's hard to create a new IP, it's even harder to create one that makes a massive positive impression. Control is both of these things. Remedy Entertainment took what they learned from titles like Alan Wake, Max Payne, and Quantum Break for an outstanding action-adventure Metroidvania title.
Protagonist Jesse Farden has been searching for the Oldest House for years. After finally locating the building she finds out it has been taken over by a supernatural race called Hiss. What's worst is that supernatural items called Objects of Power have broken out of containment and must be recaptured. This extensive adventure has Jesse battling through hordes of supernatural beings in our reality and another. It's a mindbending adventure that shoots for the stars and hits every single one of them.
You don't need a huge world-ending disaster to make an exceptional game. Luigi's Mansion 3 is a fun contained adventure that has the legendary ghost hunter Luigi attempting to save his brother and friends from King Boo. The adventure is teeming with charming moments, uniquely designed boss encounters, and clever puzzles that take full advantage of newcomer Gooigi.
Luigi's Mansion 3 is a great example of how strong gameplay can overshadow shallow narratives. Despite the story never evolving the cartoonish charm and fun ghost hunting gameplay makes Luigi's Mansion 3 one of the best games this year.
PlatinumGames have a distinct style when developing their games. Creating insane fast-paced combat systems and facing against intricate bosses. Astral Chain is no exception, with combat against supernatural creatures that make you feel like you're in a high-speed anime. As an enforcer for a special task force known as Neuron, you are the last line of defense against the Chimera threat that has put humanity's existence at risk.
You'll defend the innocence, take part in detective work, deliver ice cream, and fight colossi-sized creatures. All when the presentation sets the stage for epic encounters. The musical score, the small summary before a fight, and the incredible art design always gets the player ready for a fight. And you're going to need that adrenaline as the combat will test your speed and reaction as you mix together combos and use your tether Chimera's called Legions to aid you in battle and exploration.
Astral Chain doesn't let up and to the very end, it'll leave you yearning for more.
Dante's latest adventure was well-worth the years it took to launch. It still plays like Devil May Cry, with Nero and newcomer V coming along for the ride as a new demonic threat rises to power. The gameplay is simple, kill everything that stands in your way and it works. This thanks to strong combat based-gameplay, fantastic boss encounters, and a climactic ending. Devil May Cry V plays to the strength of the franchise for one outstanding demon-slaying experience.
Yes, another Capcom game has made the list and for good reason. Resident Evil 2 2019 captures the essence of the original with modern updates. The visuals have been improved and slight changes have been made to the adventure but the overall execution remains loyal to the 1998 classic. Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield must survive the T-Virus outbreak in Raccoon City but depending on who you choose either expose Umbrella's operation or save an innocent girl.
With each of the 2 campaigns offering both a Leon and Claire option, you're given ample single-player content to experience. Each run offering changes to the adventure including item placement, boss encounters, and unique meetings. And yes, the game is just as scary as the original title. With the infected proving to be formidable enemies that will have you conserving supplies and searching for everything.
