Paying for digital clothing

I made a much rantier rant over at GS, so I'm going to simplify this one.  I dislike very much the idea of having to pay real money to customize your gamer avatar.  Sony first did this with Home, and now MS is doing it with the Avatar Marketplace.  This is a clear waste of money as far as I'm concerned.  You get NOTHING out of paying a dollar for a shirt, or four dollars for an RC vehicle.  No entertainment value, nothing.  You should save your money for actual games.  At least you can interact with those.

So, how many of you have purchased articles in Home and will be purchasing things from the Avatar Marketplace?  For those of you who do, does it really not occur to you that you're just flushing your money down the drain?
