A guide on how to get Mega Alakazam and Alakazite in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

Finding Abra in Pokémon Legends: Z-A can be challenging, as this Pokémon is known for being easily startled and vanishing the moment it feels threatened. You will usually have only one opportunity to catch it before it disappears.

However, there are multiple Abra scattered throughout Lumiose City, so if you miss your first few attempts, you can simply move on to another one nearby. Abra also appears early in the game, making it accessible once you unlock the initial Wild Zones.
Where to Find Abra
When you first gain access to the Wild Zones, you will be able to explore Zones 1 through 5 in any order. Each zone contains different Pokémon that become visible on the map after you have encountered them once in-game.
Abra appears in Wild Zone 5, making it possible to catch one as soon as you start exploring freely. You can find them specifically on the rooftops of Zone 5, which are accessible by climbing a ladder located inside the Wild Zone.

Since Abra tends to flee when startled, you will need to approach carefully. Even if you manage to throw a Poké Ball, you must succeed on the first attempt; otherwise, Abra will break free and teleport away.
To increase your chances, use a higher-tier Poké Ball such as an Ultra Ball. Abra in this area are relatively low-leveled, so you are more likely to succeed on your initial throws.
How to Evolve Abra into Alakazam
Evolving Abra into Kadabra only requires leveling it up to Level 16. However, evolving Kadabra into Alakazam requires trading.
Unlike Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which included an item that allowed trade evolutions without trading, Legends: Z-A does not include such an item.
If you wish to skip the first step of evolution, you can catch a Kadabra directly once you gain access to Wild Zone 9.
To obtain an Alakazam early, you must trade a Kadabra through the game’s Link Play feature and then have your trade partner send it back. The full evolution process is as follows:
Abra (Psychic type) → evolves at Level 16 → Kadabra (Psychic type) → evolves after trading → Alakazam (Psychic type) → can Mega Evolve using an Alakazite.
Where to Catch Alakazam
If you prefer not to trade or do not have a trading partner, you can still obtain Alakazam later in the game. Once all Wild Zones are unlocked, an Alpha Alakazam can occasionally spawn in Wild Zone 20.
This spawn is rare and can occur during both day and night, so you may need to refresh the area multiple times before one appears. After locating it, you can defeat and then capture it to add it to your collection.

Since Wild Zone 20 becomes available near the end of the game, players who wish to use Alakazam earlier in their playthrough should consider finding a trade partner through platforms like Discord or Reddit.
Where to Find Alakazite
To Mega Evolve Alakazam, you will need the Alakazite. This item can be obtained from the Mega Shard Exchange once you gain access to Quasartico Inc., which becomes available after reaching Rank F.
At this exchange, you can trade Mega Shards for Mega Evolution Stones. While more stones become available as you progress through the game, Alakazite is one of the stones accessible from the start.
Acquiring the Alakazite requires 360 Mega Shards, but collecting that amount is manageable since Mega Shards are found throughout Lumiose City.
Once you have obtained the stone, give it to Alakazam to hold. You will then be able to use its Mega Evolution during battles.
