Insomniac’s Spider-Man 3 is Set to Become its Biggest Marvel Game Yet with Multiversal Plans

New details surrounding the rumored Venom project suggest it could serve as a bridge to Spider-Man 3, bringing back major characters, expanding the symbiote storyline, and potentially setting up a much larger multiversal threat.

Insomniac Games’ Marvel plans are starting to look increasingly connected, with new details surrounding the rumored Venom game offering a possible glimpse at what could eventually happen in Marvel’s Spider-Man 3.

According to the information in the leak discussed in the source, the Venom game is still in active development and is currently targeting a 2027 release. More importantly, several of its reported story elements could have a direct impact on the next Spider-Man game.

Spider-Man 3 Spiderman Swinging through Buildings

One of the biggest details is Eddie Brock, who is reportedly set to become the protagonist of the Venom game.

That would give Insomniac a chance to bring Eddie closer to his comic book counterpart instead of using Flash Thompson as Agent Venom or introducing an entirely new character. The game is also expected to bring back Cletus Kasady, with Carnage reportedly serving as the main villain based on earlier internal material.

Anti-Venom is also expected to play an important role, although the version connected to Eddie Brock would reportedly be different from the one associated with Peter Parker. The source describes Eddie's version as being closer to the monstrous appearance seen in the comics, while also suggesting that Eddie could maintain control over the symbiote.

That could give the Venom game its identity while still keeping it closely connected to Peter's story. It also creates another possible link between the events of Spider-Man 2, the Venom game, and Spider-Man 3.

The larger idea behind the Venom project is that it could function as a narrative bridge between Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3. The game was reportedly planned to release earlier, potentially in 2025, and was originally expected to be a shorter experience similar to Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

The Carnage storyline was also reportedly intended to continue through a second Spider-Man 2 DLC before that content was canceled. Now, some of those abandoned ideas may have been reworked into the Venom game and Spider-Man 3 instead.

That could include both the Carnage and Spider-Verse storylines, while the Beetle storyline may also return in some form.

The source suggests Beetle could eventually appear as a side quest in Spider-Man 3 rather than being part of the canceled DLC. This would give Insomniac a way to reuse ideas that were previously planned for Spider-Man 2 while making them part of a larger story.

Spider-Man 3 Venom with his Tongue

Peter Parker did leave the role of New York’s main Spider-Man behind after Spider-Man 2, but he could have a more active role in the Venom game too. When Carnage returned, he would be a major threat, and Peter could come back and help Eddie deal with it.

The source even claims that Peter and Eddie may not get along right away, which could result in a fight between Venom and Spider-Man. That kind of conflict would make sense if Insomniac wants to set up Eddie as a big character before bringing him in for Spider-Man 3.

There’s also an interesting possibility regarding Peter’s future with Anti-Venom. If Peter could somehow transfer Anti-Venom to Eddie, then Eddie could manage his Venom powers in a different manner. While this remains part of the rumor rather than confirmed information, it would give Insomniac a new way to handle the symbiote characters.

The Venom project could also establish Eddie Brock as a major character for the future of Insomniac's Marvel universe.

The source suggests that Eddie's main storyline could be resolved within the Venom game, while other elements involving Knull could potentially be saved for a Spider-Man 3 DLC, a future Venom sequel, or even Spider-Man 4. At the same time, the game could bring Peter back into the action because of the threat posed by Carnage.

Harry Osborn is another character who could benefit from the Anti-Venom storyline. The source speculates that Anti-Venom could eventually become part of the solution to Harry's condition, potentially allowing him to recover and return as a playable character in Spider-Man 3

That would give Peter another reason to become involved in the conflict with Norman Osborn and the Green Goblin. However, the source also suggests that this development would more likely be saved for Spider-Man 3 rather than being resolved during the Venom game.

Spider-Man 3 Venom with his Tongue

Another major piece of the reported Spider-Man 3 plans involves Miguel O'Hara, better known as Spider-Man 2099. Insomniac is reportedly working on a project involving Miguel, although the source argues that it is unlikely to be the Venom game, Wolverine, or X-Men.

Instead, Miguel could appear in Spider-Man 3 as part of the ideas originally planned for the canceled Spider-Verse DLC. With Spider-Man: The Great Web also canceled, Insomniac could potentially reuse some of those multiversal concepts in its next Spider-Man game.

If that happens, Spider-Man 3 could involve Peter Parker and Miles Morales helping Miguel deal with a multiversal crisis.

The game could then use the concept to introduce alternate versions of villains, different dimensions, and larger set-piece missions. The source even points to possibilities such as a Venomized Sandman or missions where the Spider-Men travel to another dimension, defeat a major enemy, and close a portal.

That would also give Spider-Man 3 more ambitious side content instead of limiting the spectacle to its main campaign. The source suggests that these multiversal missions could eventually help establish a separate Spider-Man 2099 project, especially since Insomniac reportedly has additional Marvel projects planned beyond the current lineup.

Spider-Man 3 Spiderman Laying on the ground

Spider-Man 3 is already expected to feature Peter Parker, Miles Morales, and Silk, while adding Miguel O'Hara and Eddie Brock would make the roster even larger. This lines up with comments from Insomniac's Spider-Man creative leadership describing Spider-Man 3 as an endgame that could bring together many characters and villains.

There are already several threats positioned for that eventual confrontation, including Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, and the Chameleon.

The source suggests that multiversal threats could join them, while the canceled Beetle content and possible elements from the Life Foundation storyline could also return. If even some of these reported plans are accurate, Spider-Man 3 could become the point where multiple storylines from Insomniac's Marvel games finally converge.

Insomniac's reported release lineup makes the whole plan even more compelling. The source currently places Wolverine in 2026, Venom in 2027, Spider-Man 3 in 2028, and the X-Men game two years later. That would give Insomniac a steady sequence of Marvel projects while allowing each game to build toward the next.
