Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Guide | How to Evolve Sinistea into Authentic and Phony Polteageist
Get Sinistea, tell Authentic Form from Phony Form, then use the correct pot to evolve into Polteageist.
Game Guide by Monarch on Mar 02, 2026
Sinistea has two forms in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and the evolution depends on which one you catch. The Phony Form is common, but the Authentic Form can be hard to find. Once you know where to look and what detail to check, you can catch the right one and evolve it quickly using the correct item.
Where To Find Sinistea
Sinistea was found in ruins near a town. The map can look confusing because the habitat display shows several squares, but the actual catch spot is in those ruins near town. Travel to the ruins' location and search around the broken stone area. One can appear there, so keep moving through the ruins until you spot it.

How To Tell Authentic Sinistea From Phony Sinistea
To check the form, look at Sinistea from behind. If it has a small sticker/mark under the cup, it is the Authentic Form. If there is no sticker, it is the Phony Form. The Authentic Form can take time to appear, so it may require repeated checks. If you keep seeing the wrong form, clear spawns and wait for another to appear.

Where To Get Chipped Pot And Cracked Pots
You need one of two items, depending on the form. The Chipped Pot is picked up at a specific map spot near a tree in the corner area shown on the map. Go to that location and grab it from the ground.
The Cracked Pot is found near a shrine area, also close to a tree. It appears as a Poké Ball pickup on the ground at that spot.

How To Evolve Sinistea Into Polteageist
The evolution depends on the form you caught. If you caught Phony Form Sinistea, use the Cracked Pot to evolve it into Polteageist. If you caught an Authentic Form Sinistea, you must use the Chipped Pot, and only the authentic one can use it. Open your bag, select the correct pot, and use it on Sinistea to trigger the evolution.
