Shape of Dreams Guide | How to Unlock Shell

The enjoyment you get from a game is heavily dependent on the character you play. This is especially true for rogue-likes such as Shape of Dreams. One of my personal favorite characters is the traveler Shell in Shape of Dreams.

In this guide, I will show you how to get Shell in the Shape of Dreams.

Introduction to the Character

In Shape of Dreams, Shell is a hidden character that adds a unique and dynamic playstyle to the game. Unlocking Shell requires progressing through the game, collecting specific items, and interacting with key elements in the environment. 

What you will need

To unlock Shell, you need to advance at least to the third stage of the game. Characters like Ubart and Mist are available earlier in the game, and playing them helps familiarize yourself with movement, combat, and stage mechanics. 

You can play Shell only after you have enough experience getting through the game's challenges.

The area for unlocking Shell is the Lotus region, a black-and-gray, samurai-inspired environment. This area is part of the later stages, so ensure you have progressed far enough to access it.

The Lotus area houses three hidden souls, which are essential for reviving Shell. You must explore this area carefully to find all three souls. 

Interacting with nearby prayer altars, optionally, can add context to the quest and help track your progress.

Once the three souls are collected, you have to head to the boss room, but do not enter the fight. Near the entrance, you will find a doll lying on the floor. 

The doll represents Shell and is waiting to be revived. You have to interact with the doll and use the three souls you have collected to awaken Shell, making them available for future gameplay.

Shell's abilities emphasize speed, agility, and drifting mechanics, which make him visually impressive and rewarding to play. Unlike the other characters in Shape of Dreams, he focuses on quick, high-damage attacks and maneuverability rather than defensive skills.

Mastering Shell requires strategic use of dash and attack combos to maximize damage output while avoiding incoming threats.

It may be that you struggle with collecting the three souls, so I suggest creating a secondary account to experiment with the unlock process; this will prevent your main progress from being affected.

If you follow these simple yet hard-to-execute steps, Shell will become a fully playable character for you, adding a fresh and exhilarating experience to your games.
