TimeShift: A Review
Games by DeltaX on Dec 11, 2009
Might as well start doing reviews of games that I've played. :P
Guy with suit. Play with time. Steal weapons. Delayed death effects. Rewind your mistakes. Sounds cool, right?
Well... in TimeShift, not so much.
Graphics: 5/10
There's nothing big or spectaular here. Even when it first came out, TimeShift already looked dated as it was. The textures are quite horrid (especially character models), and the animations in cinematics are sluggish at best.
Gameplay: 6/10
The only fun thing I'd consider in the entire game is using time to manuever past deadly laser security systems. Other than that, it's your run-of-the-mill run-and-gun FPS. Screw up or low on health? Just pause time and find somewhere to set up your next shot. Got a grenade stuck on you? Rewind time and give the bastard who tossed it a piece of your mind. Timeshift soldiers giving you a hard time? Just slow time down and they'll be at the same speed you are, so feel free to unload a clip into their face. I couldn't find anyone to play with on multiplayer, so I wasn't even able to test that compartment out.
Sound: 4/10
Horrible... just horrible... the weapons sound generic, so they're okay. What I'm talking about here, is the VOICE ACTING. Perhaps they were paid to try to say all their lines under one breath. Or maybe the scriptwriter forgot punctuation. Either way, it's HORRIBLE.
Story: 7/10
For me, this is a viable criteria. The story sets itself up very nicely, but ultimately fails in the end. I'll put it into terms for you now: You are a scientist working for a research facility under the watch of the DoD (Department of Defense). The facility was testing 2 timeshift suits, the Alpha (older) model, and the new Beta suit model. One of the scientists, Dr. Krone, voiced his opposition to introduction of the Beta suit (as a possible threat to his plan, as later revealed). So he decides to take the initiative and steals the suit and goes back in time to change it to his bidding. You, the faceless guy, see fit to get into the Beta suit and follow him. The facility and everybody in are killed, almost engulfing you as well until the Beta suit activates its survival mechanism and sends you back in time, with only one objective on your mind: Kill Krone and take back his time drive. The clinch for me was that flatscreen televisions, walker technology and advanced weaponry... in the year 1939 AD.
tl;dr: Great story, horrible execution.
Bottom line? Biggest. Waste. Of. Money. Ever. I'd demand a refund but I think the company's defunct.
