Call of Duty is one of the most successful and notorious franchises in entertainment. Even those who don't play video games know the name Call of Duty. Since its debut, the series has seen success after success, with some games performing better than others. Here are the top 5 Call of Duty games.

5. Call of Duty

Before Call of Duty was known for its competitive multiplayer the first game was a challenging single-player adventure. Having the player in control of an infantry soldier during WW2 it was one of the first FPS games to use iron sights and feature "shellshock". With the game's team designing a way to showcase the after effects of being near an explosion through a mix of blurred vision and muffling.

This seems like a standard within modern video games but Call of Duty was one of the first games to implement such mechanics. Providing one of the most realistic battles of its time.

4. Call of Duty: Black Ops

After the mixed reception of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 due to the game's balancing issues online such as marathon pro Call of Duty: Black Ops offered a better experience. It had its issues but many felt it was a much more stable experience compared to Modern Warfare 2. In addition, updated Zombies mode was an appealing decision considering it was one of the most popular modes in World at War.

The single-player was very out of this world. Focusing on various secret missions, mind-control, and other insane things. It was different and something fans of the series definitely needed.

3. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

Most of the Call of Duty games suffered from mediocre narratives following the Modern Warfare series' end. Black Ops was above average but Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 took it even further.

The single-player provided multiple paths, excellent boss battles, and most importantly an actually engaging story. You were still following a team of black ops soldiers but featured an impressive twist not seen in a Call of Duty game. Best of all, a special version of the campaign was available that turned the entire adventure into a zombie apocalypse campaign.

The multiplayer featured its own story where various elite soldiers fought in different virtual simulations. The class-based combat encouraged players to try out different specialists for not only unique abilities but audio logs that provided context into the soldier's background. It was so well-received that Treyarch decided to bring back the class system for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.

2. Call of Duty 2

One of the best World War 2 shooters has to go to Call of Duty 2. With multiple campaigns set across various large scale battles ranging from D-Day to 7th Armoured Division's campaign in North Africa players were constantly heading into mayhem.

Taking what the developers learned from the original game such as improved AI soldiers that reacted to the player's shots and enemies sending troops closer to the player's location. It was one of the main reasons to own an Xbox 360 and one of Infinity Ward's best games.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare,NoobFeed,

1. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

The game that set a standard for progression in multiplayer titles still used today. Call of Duty 4 remains not only the best game in the franchise but one of the best FPS games ever. The narrative was a brilliant military campaign full of giant battles and intense stealth missions. Requiring the player to constantly be alert of what could be around the corner. Especially if you planned to take on the Mile High Club on veteran.

The multiplayer was perfect. A collection of challenges, weapons, and maps that kept the player base coming back for more. It remains one of the best multiplayer experiences of all time because of its strong mechanics and addicting leveling system.
