When you love a game, you often feel the need to know more about the world you're playing in. Sometimes, the game itself may only be the tip of the iceberg. Novels, comic books, short films, and all kinds of media are produced around the universe the game is established in, and all of them give us a better understanding of it.
To that end, if you want to put down your controller for a bit, but you don't want to quit the story, this fine selection of books may be the right thing for you.

Assassin’s Creed
Nothing is true, everything is permitted, they say. Every AC fan knows the most important part of the series is its complex story. The first AC game was a dashing visual experience, but gameplay-wise it wasn’t that good. The one thing that kept the franchise afloat was the fascinating narrative AC presented. Ever since the release of the first game, the AC universe has been in constant expansion and, to this day, 6 novels have been published under the authorship of Oliver Bowden.
Assassin’s Creed: The Secret Crusade: meet Altair Ibn Al Ahad through the eyes of Niccolo Polo, father of the famous Marco Polo. Assassin’s Creed: Renaissance, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations: the three of them are set in the context of Ezio Auditore da Firenze and follow the story of his life.
Assassin’s Creed: Forsaken: Ever wondered how Haytham Kenway became a Templar? Here you’ll find the answer. Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag: Pirates, rum and plunder. Follow the story of Edward Kenway and his everlasting hunger for adventure.
If you are true to the Creed and stand for the Assassin’s colors, then you cannot miss any of these captivating stories, each of which digs a bit deeper within Desmond Miles’ lineage.
BioShock
Steampunk and objectivism meet at last, and it is glorious. BioShock’s success is not only due to its great gameplay, but also because of its rich backstory and astonishing narrative elements it presents. For the aforementioned reasons, the franchise couldn’t be complete without a couple novels:
Both, BioShock and BioShock Infinite were among the highest rated games during their respective years of release, so why not take a look to the novels that accompany them?

Gears of War
A war between two species in order to decide which one shall dominate the planet. It is as good as it gets. Gears of War has become one of the most beloved game experiences and not only for the gore and violence in it.
The story is quite alluring, especially if you are into science fiction and military stories of courage and camaraderie. Three games were not enough and, so, 5 novels were created to satisfy the fandom’s hunger for guts and chainsaws:
COG or Horde, whichever you support, you can’t afford to miss out on this book series.
