Virtua Tennis: First Look

Virtua Tennis returns once again in 2009 and SEGA Europe Ltd. and SEGA of America, Inc. are looking to serve up another ace.

The biggest draw this time around seems to be the inclusion of a Wii version. We’ve only really had a taster of what the Wiimote can in terms of tennis games so far, with the limited gameplay that Wii Sports has to offer; but if they can get the motion controls right then this could really be a title to stand up and take notice of.

One of the most appealing things about the series has always been the inclusion of some of the sports biggest names, and this latest offering hasn’t disappointed. You’ll be able to take to the courts with massive players such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova and Venus Williams, plus a few new faces like young gun Andy Murray and French Open champion Ana Ivanovic.

If none of them take your fancy, you can also create and customize your own player to use both online and offline on an impressive array of over 40 different courts. They’re also implementing an online system that allows you to spend your career winning’s on over 800 shop items, thus allowing you to upgrade your character in a multitude of ways, so there should be plenty here to keep you busy.

Virtua Tennis 2009 is set for a May release date on Wii, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
