We should have scored more

Rafa Benitez claimed he would have liked to have seen more goals after his side's 5-0 thrashing of Aston Villa.

The team was doing well but it's true I am not totally happy because we could have scored more goals. We were playing against 10 players and had three or four more chances. It's really important to take them because you never know what's going to happen with the goal difference. Today it wasn't key but in other games it has been. I wanted more goals. It's an area we need to improve. Don't get me wrong, I am really pleased and happy. The players did a fantastic job but you can always improve.

We said before we needed to do our job and wait for United to make mistakes. Now we are closer but they are still in a much better position. We need to keep going and pushing them. You cannot be thinking too much about what they will do and how many mistakes they will make. You cannot have any influence on this. We are closer and they will see we are working hard to win games. Every game is like a final for us now. They will know we can beat anyone but each game is different so we need to keep this momentum and confidence.

The boss also reserved a word for Pepe Reina, who became the fastest goalkeeper in Liverpool history to keep 100 clean sheets.

Pepe is a fantastic goalkeeper. They had some chances and he did well. He's beaten Ray Clemence's record and I am really pleased for him, and also pleased because these kind of saves can keep you in the game.

PERSONAL VIEW ON THE GAME :

We made a great start scoring the early goal with Kuyt (told ya he's gonna score now that I transferred him out of my fantasy team) and for about 5 mins the Villa players didn't know what hit 'em. But after that, and for about 15mins the gave us a couple of hard times, with Reina making a couple of crucial saves. That was the turning point of the game. Had Villa equalized, I can't predict what would have followed. Luckily we survived the mini-storm, Reina made a great volley (once again) and Riera cracked it to Friedel's nets.

That was game over. Riera was dangerous all the time from the left flank, simply because Reo-Coker isn't a right-back (don't know what O'Neil was thinking when putting him there). In one of those moments, Reo-Coker brought down Riera and Stevie didn't miss.

The rest of the game was just for fun and time to start resting a couple of players. Before that, Alonso tipped it to Gerrard who scored his 2nd one, while Torres justified his presence in the game by winning a penalty. Stevie G scored a hat-trick and Reina broke the record of Ray Clemence, achieving 100 clean sheets in less games than him.

ManUtd still has the advantage for the title, as they must fail to win in 2 matches till the end of the season (which is likely to happen) but Liverpool must win all the remaining matches which I don't see it happening.
