Where Winds Meet Guide | How to Complete A Sudden Drum Echoes Drum Quest

The A Sudden Drum Echoes drum quest takes place in a small foggy zone filled with enemies, drums, and hidden loot. This guide shows you how to start the quest, reach every objective, ring all the drums, and move safely through the mud and water. 

You will also see how to use the environment, gather useful materials, and reach the boss fight that waits at the end of the quest.

How to Start A Sudden Drum Echoes

If you are trying to finish some of the main Campaign missions in the first area, you will see a message that says “A Sudden Drum Echoes” as soon as you arrive in this region. You can track the drum quests from your map. 

Open the map, select the current area, and then move over to the Campaign tab. Each region has a lot of quests here, with well over 75 quests per area, so there is always something to do. This drum quest is one of those missions, and starting it here lets you progress the main story while exploring the foggy zone.

Entering the Fog and Following Audio Logs

When the quest begins, you appear in a small area covered in thick fog. Visibility is low, so you need to pay attention to any glowing markers around you. Watch for flashing Audio Logs or icons that hint at your next direction. 

It is safe to step into the water for a short time, but try not to stay in it too long. You will also notice raised walkways around parts of the area. Depending on where you enter, you may not be close to any walkway at first, so be ready to move carefully through the mud.

Use your scan ability to survey the area. When you scan, some enemies and key objects are highlighted, which makes it easier to see where you should head next. Follow the quest marker and move toward the first objective point, using the walkways whenever possible to avoid slowing down in the thick mud.

First Drum Location and Enemy Behavior

At the first objective point, you will run into some tough enemies. These enemies are fairly high level and can be dangerous if you are not careful. When you defeat them, they can enrage and almost “come back to life” with extra health, turning the fight into a second round. 

Because of this, try to manage your stamina, cooldowns, and healing items so you are ready when they rise again with more power.

Once every enemy in the area has been taken out, look toward the back of the location. You will see the first drum there. Move up to the drum and interact with it right away. This triggers a cutscene and progresses the A Sudden Drum Echoes quest to the next objective.

Second Drum, Chests, and the Fast Travel Stone

After the first drum, new objective points appear around the foggy zone. On your way to the next marker, you will notice a lot of chests and other objects scattered across the area. 

There are many valuable materials here, including things like Cobblestone, that may be harder to obtain later. Whenever it is safe, take time to pick these up so you do not miss easy resources.

As you move forward, stay on the walkways whenever you can so you do not need to cross the mud again and again. Along the path, you will find a Fast Travel Stone. 

Activate this Fast Travel Stone so you can return to this place more easily in the future, especially if the fog clears and you want to revisit the area for more exploration.

At some point, you reach a key NPC, a soldier standing near the path forward. Speak with this NPC and he will send you on the next steps of the quest. From here, you need to defeat another small group of enemies. 

Be prepared for another fight and keep using the walkways to avoid the mud during combat. You may see a nearby chest, but you do not need to open it right now, because you will have a chance to loot it later. 

After clearing the enemies, continue along the marked direction until you reach the second drum. Interact with this drum to progress the quest again.

Third Drum and Finishing the Drum Sequence

The third objective point can be a little harder to locate at first. The fog and twisting paths make the layout confusing. Follow your quest marker closely and retrace the described route if needed. Stay alert as you move, because more enemies are waiting around the final drum location.

Just like before, these enemies can revive with additional health after you knock them down the first time. Keep your guard up through the whole fight and save some healing for the second phase of each enemy. 

Once the area is clear, look around for the final drum in this part of the zone. Move up to it and ring the last drum to complete the drum sequence for A Sudden Drum Echoes.

NPC Reactions, War Drums, and Lead-Up to the Boss

After the last drum is activated, you must go back and speak to the same NPC you talked to earlier. Return to him and ask him to stop the drumming. When you do this, the quest reaches its final stage and you receive your end-of-quest loot as a reward for finishing the drum objectives.

During this time, you hear NPCs react to the sound of the war drums. They say that the war drums belong to their reinforcements and signal that it is time to march north. They talk about General Y, saying that General Y will avenge them and will come to protect them soon. 

Some adults tell children like Chich and Shu to hide and behave, while those same children dream of fighting like the general instead of running away. 

The people hope that General Y is still alive and that the march to the north will save them. Their words build tension and set the mood as the army prepares to move.

Once the dialogue finishes and your rewards are handed out, you are pushed straight into a difficult boss fight linked to this quest. 

The boss is tough and demands more detailed strategy, so go in prepared with solid gear, healing items, and a good understanding of enemy revives from the earlier encounters.
