This step can be very confusing, especially on console, because the game does not clearly explain that you must recycle existing pillars instead of building new ones from scratch.

This guide walks you through how to enter Construction Mode, remove the old pillars, and place them in the correct spots so the objective completes without any guesswork.

Why Building New Pillars Does Not Work

When the quest begins and the game tells you to dismantle misplaced pillars, it is easy to assume that building your own fresh pillars will complete the task. If you craft or place new ones right away, the objective will not progress.

The game wants you to interact with specific existing pillars near a shack and recycle them first. Understanding that you must reuse these original pillars is the key to finishing this objective.

How To Enter Construction Mode On Console

On console, the menus for Construction Mode can feel awkward and hard to read at first. To get started when you reach the quest area, you need to open the building interface. On PlayStation, press the touchpad, then press R2, and then use the touchpad again to enter Construction Mode.

If you are playing on Xbox or another console, open the construction wheel shown at the top of the screen. In that wheel, you can see the control prompts that tell you which buttons to press to enter and exit Construction Mode.

Follow those button prompts to swap in and out of building mode whenever you need to adjust the pillars or move around the area.

Finding The Shack And The Original Pillars

Once Construction Mode is available and you are ready to work on the objective, move over to the nearby shack linked to this quest step. Inside this small structure, there is a wall with four pillars already attached to it. These are the misplaced pillars that need to be dismantled and reused.

Look carefully at the bottom of your screen while you are in Construction Mode. You will see a row of boxes that represent different build options and functions. On the far-right side of this row is a small trash can icon. This trash can is the command you need in order to recycle existing structures like these pillars.

How To Recycle The Misplaced Pillars

With the shack and the wall of pillars in front of you, move your cursor so that the trash can icon is highlighted. On many controllers, pressing R3 selects the trash can. Once the trash can is selected, you are ready to start recycling.

Target one of the pillars on the wall and use the trash can function to recycle it. There are two pillars on each side of the wall, for a total of four. You need to recycle these pillars so they are removed from the wall and turned back into usable building pieces. After you recycle the pillars, they become available in your construction inventory, which allows you to place them elsewhere for the quest.

Placing The Pillars On The Correct Spots

After recycling the misplaced pillars, leave the shack and look around the ground near the quest area. You should see several circles on the ground that mark the correct locations where the pillars must be placed. These circles are the intended construction points for the quest.

Return to Construction Mode and select the recycled pillars from your available building pieces. Move to each circle on the ground and place a pillar directly on top of it. Make sure every circle receives a pillar. This is where the quest checks your progress.

To finish the task cleanly, dismantle any remaining misplaced pillars on the wall inside the shack if you have not already done so, then use all of them to fill the circles on the ground.

Once every required circle has a pillar standing on it, the Dismantle Misplaced Pillars objective will complete, and you can continue with the questline without further trouble.
