World War Z Guide | New York Virus Sample Locations

If a Virus Sample gets hit during a swarm in New York, it's one of the easiest places to lose it. The paths are narrow, fights get out of hand, and a short delay can turn into a big problem. This guide gives quick directions for each Virus Sample spot in New York, mission by mission, to keep movement clean and damage low.

Where to Find Descent Virus Samples

Before the room with the elevator, look for a double door on the right side of the first Virus Sample spot. Open it and go down into the room with a few red couches. A Virus Sample is behind half of a corpse near the end of the room, next to the last couch.

To get the second Virus Sample, go to the lower part of the mall near the gate. Go down the steps of the escalator and then turn left. There is a virus sample next to the body of a soldier who is slumped against the escalator. It is better to wait until after the mall swarm is defeated to collect this, since taking it early makes it easier for the container to get damaged during the fight.

To get to the third Virus Sample, open the gate and walk left toward the subway entrance. There is a truck that has flipped over on the way, and there are several type-2 traffic barriers next to it. The body of a soldier is slumped against the wheels of the truck, and the Virus Sample is right next to it.

Places to Find Tunnel Vision Virus Samples

To get to the first Virus Sample, walk down the long hallway that goes to the control panel room. Instead of going into that room, turn left and down into a room with a lot of white pipes. At the end, a soldier's body is slumped against the pipe, and a Virus Sample is nearby.

To find the second Virus Sample, go to the room to the left of the control panel while you look for the first key to clear the gas on the floor below. Go through the open door into the hallway, turn left, and walk down the hall. There is a dead soldier on the ground next to some wooden crates, and the Virus Sample is right next to it.

For the third Virus Sample, get rid of all the gas and head for the gate. After you get out, drop down and turn left. Keep going until you see the body of a soldier next to a container. The Virus Sample is hidden next to the body. 

This pickup needs to happen as soon as possible, because Zekes start coming in as soon as someone steps down into the tower. The safest thing to do is to have someone who doesn't have a Virus Sample step down first and run straight to this spot. This way, the team is exposed for less time.

Places to Find Hell and High Water Virus Samples

To get to the first Virus Sample quickly, fall into the tunnels under the train depot and then move forward, right, left, and right again. Another sure way is to walk around until you see "⟵C" and "D⟶" on a wall near the top corners. Under the “D⟶” marking, a soldier’s corpse is tucked in, and the Virus Sample is hidden close by.

For the second Virus Sample, after you crash the train through the red gate, go to the exit and go into the room with a big open grate that leads down to the sewers. Don't jump down yet. Instead, walk to the right side of the opening. There is a dead soldier inside the machine, and next to a blue barrel is the Virus Sample.

For the third Virus Sample, go to the street just before the evacuation zone after leaving the monastery museum. Jump off the platform onto a green van, then go behind it. 

There is a Virus Sample nearby and a soldier's body is half-hidden in the back. It is best to wait until the street is safe to collect this, because rushing in too soon can cause damage from Zekes, turrets, or mines that are coming in.
