Apple's next-gen MacBook Pro is said to feature tandem OLED panels, a touchscreen, a Dynamic Island-style interface, and better cooling in one of its biggest redesigns in years. The next 14-inch and 16-inch models, expected in November, could bring major hardware upgrades, though performance-focused buyers might be disappointed by the continued use of M5 Pro and M5 Max CPUs.
Apple may launch OLED MacBook Pro on October 28
Apple has announced a future event on October 28 called "Pro and Tell." Reports say press members have been invited to Cupertino to test the new MacBook Pro models. Other products may follow, but the revamped laptops are expected to draw significant interest.

This year, Apple updated the MacBook Pro lineup with M5 Pro and M5 Max processors. However, they keep the 2021 design, with mini-LED panels and 14- and 16-inch variants. The current laptops are still perfectly fine professional devices, but they need a radical overhaul.
Tandem OLED Displays Could Replace Mini-LED Technology
The biggest rumored update is a dual OLED panel, similar to the M4 and M5 iPad Pro models. OLED can produce deeper blacks, higher contrast, and more vivid pictures than today's mini-LED displays.
ProMotion technology will likely remain to keep scrolling and animations smooth. OLED could be more power-efficient in certain settings, which could improve battery life. But it is dependent on brightness, workload, and software optimization.
The makeover could also remove the current display notch. Instead, Apple might embed a camera in the screen and add a Dynamic Island-style interface for notifications and other system information. How they implement this is anyone's guess, but it could give the MacBook Pro a more modern look.
M5 Pro and M5 Max Chips May Remain Unchanged
Significant design updates but few CPU advancements. Rumors suggest the OLED variants will still use the current M5 Pro and M5 Max CPUs, with no extra cores or major architectural changes. Apple could also offer a separate M6 MacBook Pro with the existing design, as it has done before, by keeping older designs for CPU generations.
That is, the OLED models' biggest plus points might be the display, cooling, and more features rather than significant performance gains.

Thinner Design Could Bring Improved Cooling
The revamped MacBook Pro could be about 1mm to 2mm slimmer and a bit lighter. Apple is also reportedly working on a new thermal system that would include a vapor chamber and traditional fans. A vapor chamber would spread heat more efficiently and might reduce thermal throttling under heavy workloads. Better cooling might also lay a better foundation for future Apple silicon chips.
Touchscreen support is another big option. The display would let users engage with apps and browse interfaces immediately. Apple has not said whether the touchscreen feature would work with macOS or whether users can turn off touch input.
Cellular Connectivity Could Expand MacBook Pro Capabilities
Rumors also suggest N1 and C2 processors could improve wireless access and enable cellular data via eSIM. If the plan goes ahead, cellular connectivity will let people access the mobile internet without relying on Wi-Fi or smartphone hotspots. This would make the MacBook Pro more useful for professionals working away from stable wireless networks; however, availability and compatible networks are unconfirmed.
Higher Prices and a November Release Expected
The updated MacBook Pro will likely still come in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, but consumers could see a big price increase. The OLED variants are reportedly $300 to $500 more than existing mini-LED models, thanks to their upgraded panels, revamped hardware, and other functionality.
Apple may also keep selling current mini-LED versions for another generation or two, offering a cheaper option. The October 28 event should shed light on specs, pricing, and availability. Nothing has been confirmed, but it is expected to premiere in November, with November 7 being touted as a possible release date.
The OLED MacBook Pro may undergo a significant overhaul, but the lack of chip changes and higher prices could make upgrade choices tricky.
